Alright here's the deal

Fed up with people giving me different answers all time so lI'll discuss it here

If I was interested in joining a University in England, let's say the likes of "Royal College of Music" or "Guildhall School of Music" etc.. obviously music schools

Do I have to take GCSE's ? They don't take SAT's, am I correct ?

Are GCSE's a must ?

in england, u need gcse's as well as A-levels, if not that i believe the IB(international bacalauriette) is adequate, that is the case generally, but in the case of a music school im nto entirely sure, but i would hazard a guess gcse's at least are needed

well ive just got a place at uni, basically u need gcse's to do ur A levels which will enable u to get a certain ammount of ucas points once u have recieved an offer, unless its unconditional where u are guaranteed a place unless u reject.

when u fill out your ucas form which is done on the internet on their site, u put down ur gcse qualifications, and any other qualifications and qualifications you are currently taking, plus theres a reference that has to be written by you and your subject teachers, jobs etc...

as for sats, that one that is not require to be put down on the ucas application, the sats was just sumthing to enable you to get into secondary school, like the A levels is to uni.

as for specialist schools, im not too sure, but id imagine its the same system as the college ive been accepted for specialises in the topic i want to study in.

    hope this helped

GCSE's and A Levels are not a must for an international student as you would be. As far as i am aware there is a conversion table that each university has so an SAT score would get x amount of points which would then be compared to the x amount of points needed to gain admission.

Any Problems give me a shout

not the points acquired for uni is based on what u get in your AS levels and A levels, as i said the sats was just sumthing to get you into secondary school, as the ucas form doesnt require u to put down your sats results.

when u receive a unconditional uni offer it will usually ask you to gain x ammount of points from the 2 years of A level study, but heres the catch

in your AS (first year of A levels) the grade boundaries are slightly lower than the A2 the second year, so its almost essential to achieve the highest possible grade the first year, as the points counted for are based on the better grade you got over the 2 years so lets say u get a D in the first year and an E in the 2nd, they take the points allocated for the D grade in the first year as it was a better grade.

but it doesnt mean u can get A's in the first year and u's in the 2nd as usually a conditional offer will require you to gain at least 1 A level which is the full 2 years not the 1.

So GCSE'S and A levels are not a must then ? I'm sorry but I'm getting confused with the other posts.

@Andy: there's a site like UCAS but particularly for people interested to studying in England to be a musician. It's called CUKAS, and here's the website
    http://www.cukas.ac.uk/

Now, before I start anything, if that's the case, shall I register now or not (If GCSE's are not required then) as I'm in my last year and the sooner, the better I want to get admitted.

So If I'm an international student, and doing my SAT's, then after I do my SAT test, they transfer my test's scores into admission points and from there, they allow me in?

no in the ucas form that u will need to fill out it will ask you if you're an international student and it will take it course from there.

the points scoring system comes into play in what you achieve in your 2 years of A level.

as i said the sats is just an admission into secondary school, well it is here in england, not sure if thats always the case.

i heard the GCSE is needed

yes u need gcse's to allow u to progress onto A levels, but also when u fill out your ucas form they do require you to list the gcse's.

basically u arnt allowed to do A levels unless u pass what they call the core subjects : maths english and science

Eddy, why don't you email the universities and ask them what do they want for recquirements? No one here works in the admission or registrar of any of these universities.

they wont tell u unless u apply through ucas, who pass on your infos to the uni's apply for.

cuz they cant give u any offeres if they dont know anything about u and ucas is the mediator between the 2 parties.
