UEFA have now confirmed the nominations for "Best player", "Best defender" etc.

Best player: Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Manchester U, Raul Gonzalez, Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane, Real Madrid
My winner: Raul Gonzalez

Best goalkeeper: Gianluigi Buffon, Juventus, Jerzy Dudek, Liverpool, Oliver Kahn, Bayern München.
My winner: Oliver Kahn

Best defender: Cafu, Roma, Sami Hyypiä, Liverpool, Roberto Carlos, Real Madrid.
My winner: :undecided:

Best midfielder: Michael Ballack, Bayer Leverkusen, Roy Keane, Manchester U, Patrick Vieira, Arsenal.
My Winner: Michael Ballack

Best attacker: Raul Gonzalez, Real Madrid, David Trezeguet, Juventus, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Manchester U.
My winner: Ruud van Nistelrooy

Best coach: Vicente del Bosque, Real Madrid, Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester U, Klaus Toppmöller, Bayer Leverkusen.
My winner: Klaus Toppmöller

These nominations are somewhat fair it's only Roy Keane and Alex Ferguson who doesn't deserve their nominations. Lippi and Nedved would have deserved them more.
Have you noticed that out of the three nominated coaches only del Bosque has won a title this year.
The winners will be presented the same day as the first round of the Champions league is drawn, August 29. If we are very lucky we will see two juventinos get awarded.

As per usual nominations for the top awards always appear to be kind of out of place and WRONG. What did Sir Alex win.....nothing.

Best player nominations.......Tristan anybody?

Ruud.....no thanks.

Well my votes have to go to:

Best Player: Zidane (There were better players though i.e Kahn, Henry)

Gk: Kahn (this was the only fair selection for nominees, three of th best Gks last season.
Def: Hypia (Rio ferdinand anyone?)
Mid: Ballack (Pires should have had a nomination though)
Att: Trez (not being biased, but what did Ruud win? And where is Tristan?)

Manager: Toppmoller (only because Fergeson has done nothing and Del Bosque had the advantage of the biggest budget, Wenger and Lippi should have had nominations.)

I do honestly think the nominations were for performances in Cl not the individual leagues as there are no Dortmund or Valencia players there

Mine will ne though
goalkeeper i thought Buffon was the best keeper as Kahn only proved his true worth at the wc

Defender Luccio deserves a mention so do Hyppia and Henchoz

Midfield I am surprised some are questioning Keane's worth and no way should Nedved be included, but i would include Valeron, Mauro Silva, Ballack, Bastruck but overall winner will be ZZ

Forwards I do agree its an oversight to ignore Tristian, Van Nisterooy, Trez and Raul but i will tend towards Tristian

Managers Del Bosque, Toppmoller,

winner Topmoller

Overall player should be between Raul ( for not winning world's and european footballer of the year) and Zidane

Del Bosque though no fave of mine still has to be respected for dealing with the egos he has to deal with, lets face it he is not a big enuff coach to handle Real madrid players but he has done okay. Compare that to so called big managers who sell players because they couldn't handle egos and thereby weakened their squads

it is Rupert Murdoch buisness empire

that trys to make Man U

too a bigger team then they are
by forcing Jorunalists to write them up

Just check Soccernet for instance.......

but I didn't know he had such strong influnces on the UEFA nominations too

or made UEFA is doing it
because they know that if MAn U is happy it can give UEFA more coverage

the best thing would be if MAn U were to be knocked out in the first round

it would mean such a cut in profits of the CL TV Productions......

Guus Hiddink is Dutchman and last time I checked, we were part of Europe.

As for the club thing - he's now at PSV.

I find it ridiculous that we can't include succesfull Europeans overseas...
