The Germans deserve it; the Italians simply don't. No need to embarrass and humiliate Calcio anymore. It's better that Serie A loses a spot (we shouldn't even be playing in Europe given our abysmal performances) so that those delusional fuckwits running Calcio realize that not all is fine and dandy.

We don't deserve to be in the CL Andy; if we do, we might as well start playing like we give a fuck. However, if we are good enough come next year, it won't matter because as Juve we should be fighting for the Serie A title, and not appearing to be content with a top 4 finish. We should always be number 1 or thereabouts.

In a worst case scenario, but football goes in cycles and Serie A is only barely trying to emerge from the crisis that was 2006. Teams really need to start taking the Europa League seriously though, the German sides find a balance, even if the Bundesliga doesn't quite have the all-importance that Serie A does to the domestic sides.

More needs to be done off the pitch before we start talking about players wanting to go elsewhere. Bayern are already a very big draw anyway, they are a massive club. After that you are looking at clubs like Hamburg and Dortmund who were strong at one time but are not European giants, and then the 'new money' teams of Schalke, Hoffenheim and Wolfsburg. There are three European giants in Serie A with good backing, and an equal supporting cast to the Bundesliga at least. Serie A really could do with a similar cash injection amongst the mid level teams but the Italian economy is weak. There is no Cirio or Parmalat, to lift teams like Lazio and Parma up to European contenders.

Do you think Serie A would have ended up in this decline had Juventus not been relegated back after Calciopoli?

Now that is an intriguing question. I'm surprised no one (that I know of) in the media or football world has bothered to ask it before.

Italy was already in decline so the answer is probably yes, but I don't think it would have happened so fast.

The decline being the lack of the 4th CL place? It would only have lasted for another couple of seasons, because clubs were still not fielding strong sides in the UEFA Cup. So my answer is no, but it might not have made a significant difference to the coefficients in the long run. Sure, rather Juve in the CL than Chievo going out in the preliminaries FFS, teams like Livorno in Europe, Calciopoli pushed a lot of inferior teams higher up. It's simple really, Serie A need a strong Juve just as it needs a strong Milan and Inter.

No. What happens to La Liga if you relegate Barca to their second division or the Premiership if you relegate United? Juve were easilly the best team in Italy and when we went down, Serie A is going to go down with us. It changes the entire complexity of the league. If Juve was still as good as before, we would have really good teams like Roma playing in the Europa league. The level of competition in Italy would have gone up which probably means more money for the top teams, that would attract bigger names to serie A.

I don't know if Juve's relegation was the only cause for Serie A's decline but definitely a main factor. It's all about the money in the end, the richest leagues are the best. When you have a team like Juve taking a huge financial blow, it's inevitable that the whole league would suffer.

Sure. It decreases competition and breeds mediocrity. Those leagues are absolutely better for having those strong teams in there, and not because people compare CL results to league strength. Calciopoli was a disaster for the league, but then it's not a new thing in Italy to cut off your nose to spite your face.

Things are shaping up in such a way that the winner of a potential Bayern-Inter CL final will decide which league will have 4 teams in CL in 2011/2012.
