The Bianconeri’s resounding 4-1 win in Udine was built on defensive solidarity, midfield dominance and clinical finishing in the box.
Naturally, the red card handed to Brkic inside the opening 13 minutes made the visitors’ task a little more straightforward. But, in spite of their numerical superiority, Antonio Conte’s men kept their foot on the pedal and capitalised on the chances created to record a richly deserved victory.
Possession wise, the Bianconeri’s 63% matches up with their command of the ball in the opening day success over Parma. They had a total of 20 shots on goal, of which 10 were on target.
The team’s 78.7% pass completion rate is equally as impressive. And there are no surprises when the statistic is broken down to focus on individuals. Andrea Pirlo is top of the pile with 109 successful passes, followed by Vidal, Marchisio, Barzagli, Chiellini and Bonucci.
With four attempts each, Vucinic and Giovinco posed the greatest goalscoring threat. Their persistence was rewarded when the Montenegrin netted on the stroke of half time, while the Italian’s second-half double made the points safe.
