A late David Trezeguet scissor-kick ends Udinese's unbeaten home record, but it was a controversial encounter.
Juventus needed at least a point in order to stay on top of the table on their own, but the upcoming Champions' League showdown with Deportivo La Coruna prompted them to rest several stars.
Alessandro Del Piero, Pavel Nedved, Ciro Ferrara and Igor Tudor were injured, while Coach Marcello Lippi opted to rest David Trezeguet and Paolo Montero.
Marcelo Zalayeta stepped in for Trezeguet and proved dangerous with two early headers, but former Juventus goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis was equal to them. Gianluca Zambrotta also drilled a powerful effort past the far post.
Udinese are one of only two sides - along with Milan - who have an unbeaten home record this season. There was tension on 19 minutes when Marek Jankulovski charged into the box and slipped under pressure from Mark Iuliano, but there did not appear to be contact.
The home side tended to play on the counter-attack or with crosses for the head of Carsten Jancker.
Juventus had the best chances with Edgar Davids drilling another good effort inches wide.
A Lilian Thuram defensive error almost cost Juve dear when he passed straight to Jankulovski inside the penalty area, but the Frenchman and Alessio Tacchinardi managed to recover.
Thuram was switched to the right soon after and almost netted with a powerful drive into the side netting.
In fact, Paolo Montero came on at half-time to move Thuram to that wider role.
The second period started with one of Juve's best chances of the game so far, but De Sanctis bravely ran out to block Marco Di Vaio's close-range effort.
The nerves were frayed and Udinese were left in ten men when Gianpiero Pinzi clashed repeatedly with Edgar Davids, finally hacking down the Dutchman for a harsh straight red card.
The home side protested long and hard at this decision and the tension rose around the Stadium.
Juve threw on Trezeguet and Marcelo Salas, but either their finishing left something to be desired or the Udinese defence charged them down.
The deadlock was eventually broken in spectacular fashion six minutes from time. An error in midfield saw Zambrotta charge down the flank and put in for a magnificent Trezeguet scissor-kick inbetween two defenders.
Di Vaio was ready to celebrate a goal when his delicate chip surpassed De Sanctis, but Nestor Sensini cleared off the line.
The defender almost proved decisive up the other end of the field in stoppage time as Sensini's strong header shaved the woodwork.

I got to see the second half, the announcer said that not much happened in the first half, is that true?
The two men behind our goal, Zambo and Trez, both played bad IMO, but Trez didn't have that much time on the pitch and Zambo got better and better through the half. It's clear that Trez is nothing without support, I thought Salas played better than him today(!).
From what I saw Di Vaio was great, a new player from the player that started the season.
Our defense was rock solid, except the injury time.
