2-1 in Extra time.
Players of the game: Beckerman, Holden, Marshall, Arnaud, Cooper.
We did a fantastic job in the second half coming back into the match, and Beckerman's strike really saved us. Then in extra time Holden and Cooper made the penalty, with the latter converting under pressure. Very well done by those boys, and that's why I have been saying for a year that Kenny should be in the team. He's better than Ching, Conner Casey and Johnson. Bradley may look smart for bringing certain players on, but guys like Cooper should have been starting all along.
Brian Ching gets a lot of praise from every single media source I've seen because he works hard and does well distributing the ball with his back towards goal. This is true and all, he does do well laying off the ball to better players than him with his back towards goal, but we don't need this sort of player. All Ching does is slow up the play. If we play to our strengths, as in attack with pace and strength, Ching's presence is a detriment because we need pacey players on the pitch like Davies who can turn around defenders and take them on one vs. one. We need fast strikers who play well facing towards goal so that we score on counterattacks, fast breaks, and overall good plays produced from the wing.
Cooper's strengths include holding up the ball AND attacking with pace for a big guy, as well as being an aerial force in the box. He should play instead. Davies should play instead. And the media should stop fawning over Ching every single match because I just don't understand what is so great about the guy. It's almost like I'm in the twighlight zone here... Ching only scores in friendlies against weak opposition and adds nothing, unless we're Barcelona or something where laying off the ball to Messis and Iniestas will bring about goals.
Also, nice to see Adu dropped consistently after one mediocre game. That kid now has less confidence than Sebastian Deisler, so thanks a lot Bob. You let your son and Ching and Kljestan and Beasley have chance after chance to resurrect good form, but the youngsters you say no to. OK. No moral hazard there.
