We kind of had a similar situation last week. We played against Lebanon in Sydney, and there was a very large turnout from the local Lebanese population - which is massive in (Western) Sydney.

I’ve seen it happen in the past in games against Turkey as well. But this was also in the days when the NT would have fewer local fans (just the die-hards) so there was no surprise when the diaspora came out to cheer for their birth nations.

Put it this way, if Italy, Greece, Croatia, China, India (lol) etc played against Australia, a large portion of the crowd in those games in Australia would be cheering against the Aussies. Especially in the big capital cities.
