The cricket world was shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer in Kingston on Sunday morning. A former England Test cricketer, Woolmer was one of the great modern coaches.

His fellow cricketers paid him rich tribute in the media, here are some of them.

Kapil Dev: "What can I say? This is shocking. I am still pinching myself to believe that he's gone. I just pray that his wife and children get the strength to bear this loss.

It is a great loss to the cricketing world.

Shoaib Akhtar: "My relationship with him could not have ever been understood by the media. I still can't believe it happened.

"And it happened so quickly. We can't do anything about it and it is huge tragedy for Pakistan cricket, a huge shock for the nation. I don't think I can take it very well."

Allan Donald: The news was pretty devastating, to be honest. He was a very, very close friend, actually more than as a coach.

"He was a very respected man. We were together with Warwickshire and South Africa.

"Bob was an extremely professional man, was an extremely soft person, gave his life to cricket and probably paid for it. He lived for cricket."

Waqar Younis: He was great for the game and has worked hard all his life.

"I have played with a lot of coaches but he was the best when it came to professionalism."

Michael Holding: My first tour was to England and we go back many years as cricketers and friends.

"I valued his company.

"It's a sad day for the sport and the cricketing fraternity.

"This is totally unexpected. I knew he was upset and under intense pressure but no one could have foreseen this.

"I send my condolences to his family."

Police in Jamaica have launched a murder investigation into the death of Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer.

Following the results of a post mortem examination, police said Mr Woolmer had died of asphyxia as a result of manual strangulation.

The chief police commissioner appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Woolmer, 58, was found in his hotel room on Sunday, the day after his team lost to Ireland in the World Cup.

Police spokesman Karl Angell said: "The pathologist's report states that Mr Woolmer's death was due to asphyxia as a result of manual strangulation.

"In these circumstances, the matter of Mr Woolmer's death is now being treated by the Jamaica police as a case of murder."

Earlier, Jamaican police questioned members of Pakistan's cricket squad over the death.

After questioning, the team left for the Jamaican resort of Montego Bay.

They are due to return to Pakistan on Saturday. They were not interviewed under caution.

Mark Shields, the deputy chief commissioner of Jamaican police, said: "We do not have any suspects," adding that the team were free to leave.

Yes he was murdered and it is believed by someone he knows
.......And it was reported on the news today that one motive to kill him may have been, Bob Woolmar had intended to blow the lid off the match-fixing & corruption within the sport.

I don't like cricket, but R.I.P. Bob!

Part of the reason is that he was murdered in Jamaica and the tournament now moves away from there.

It probably would only require a player or a countries official to be as much as suspected for the tournament to stop.
