How can you not like Thuram? Especially after his World Cup.

I actually love Thuram Akerman. And I sincerely hope he takes up a management job at Juve when he's done playing. Fact is, the World Cup was his final stage at that level. And that turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because we could probably yield a couple of million euros on his sale. However, Thuram as a player is finished. He'll get runover in Spain or England, and clearly he's over the hill. He was great in his prime, but unfortunately every player has his time. Damn, I dint mean to make it rhyme. :D

Cannavaro for me, is a must stay, yes it maybe selfish to make him stay, but really he's done it all now except the Champions League, and he could guide the young Juve backline and instill the kind of values that would help them in the long run.
Cannavaro is probably the only world-class players who has won absolutely nothing on club level!!!

Della Valle: Fiorentina won't sell Toni
tribalfooball.com - July 16, 2006

Fiorentina patron Diego Della Valle has declared Luca Toni will not be sold.

Tottenham, Inter Milan and Real Madrid have all been linked with the Italy World Cup winner since Fiorentina's demotion to Serie B on Friday.

But Della Valle insists: "In the family in which they have grown, the contracts always must be respected.

"Luca Toni is ours, we have constructed a team for the Champions League. Toni has worked well with Corvino and enthusiastically with Cesare Prandelli.

"Until something contrary emerges, Toni must remain in Florence."

This is what upsets me. I understand the need to punish the teams that cheated. But they are going to ruin Italian football for years to come with this mass exidous of our best players. Many of them Italians.

People are always telling me Thuram is washed up, but he keeps proving different. I think he was very good this year and the second best defender in World Cup. Maybe it's a good idea to make some money out of him now that there is still time. The argument for selling him should be about money, not about his age. And on top of that he has a great Juve-mentality.

Ferguson targets Juventus talent

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is eager to sign the cream of Juventus following the Italian club's relegation from Serie A.

"We held things back until we knew what the Juve situation was," said Ferguson.

"Now we know where we're going in terms of making inquiries and maybe definite offers for one or two players."

He added: "Gianluigi Buffon, Gianluca Zambrotta, Fabio Cannavaro, Lilian Thuram, Emerson and Patrick Vieira are the ones that people will be focusing on because there's some element that suggests that "one of two" players could maybe have free transfers if they were going outside of Italy."

Chelsea have rejected a £7m bid from Tottenham Hotspur for Damien Duff saying they must increase their offer to £11m - and have also made contact with Gianluca Zambrotta's representatives over a deal to sign the Juventus defender.

It appears likely, however, that Zambrotta will join Real Madrid along with Fabio Cannavaro, who also interests Chelsea, and the midfielder Emerson.

Inter owner Massimo Moratti will hold talks with Juventus this week in a bid to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Patrick Vieira.

The two players are on the verge of leaving the Italian giants following the Calciopoli verdicts and the Nerazzurri are desperate for the pair.

Reports in Italy on Tuesday suggest that Moratti has scheduled a meeting with Juve chief Giovanni Cobolli Gigli where he will attempt to open negotiations.

The midfielder is seen as a potentially crucial capture after the loss of Juan Sebastian Veron who has returned to his homeland.

Inter are ready to offer the former Arsenal man, who has also been linked with Real Madrid and Manchester United, a four-year contract worth around £3m a campaign.
However, there seems to be a significant difference between Juventus’ asking price and Inter’s offer for the combative midfielder.

With regard to Ibrahimovic, it seems as if the club and the player have already agreed personal terms.

Agent Mino Raiola is understood to have negotiated a £2.8m a year deal until 2011 for the Swedish sensation.

Nevertheless, the two clubs still have to agree a fee and there is, unsurprisingly, a difference of opinion in terms of valuation.

Inter are willing to offer almost £11m while Juventus believe the former Ajax sensation is worth closer to £18m.

The Nerazzurri have recently confirmed that Ibrahimovic, teammate David Trezeguet and Fiorentina’s Luca Toni are on their list of transfer targets.

Zambrotta keen on Milan Tuesday 18 July, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Milan are in pole position to sign Gianluca Zambrotta, the Juventus player’s agent has revealed on Tuesday.

Although the English media have speculated that Chelsea are lining up a bid for the versatile full-back, the Italian won’t ponder a move abroad unless his desire of joining the Rossoneri fails to materialise.

"Zambrotta's wish is to stay in Italy, but not at Juventus and the only club that can afford the transfer and that have shown a keen interest is Milan," Giuseppe Bonetto told PA Sport.

"Should Juve fail to reach an agreement with Milan then Zambrotta will consider the other alternatives.”

The former Bari player is expected to leave the Italian giants after their relegation to Serie B and Juventus have been bombarded with requests.

Although Bonetto conceded that Chelsea will make a formal approach, the Premiership champions will have to join a long queue.

“An agent representing Chelsea will meet Juventus in the next few days, but they are not the only ones interested in Zambrotta,” he added.

“Real Madrid and Barcelona are also keen to sign the player.

"It will be down to Juventus to make the decisions and let us know what the options are once there is something concrete.”

Juventus value the newly crowned World Cup winner, recognised as one of the game’s best full-backs, at around £14m.

The former Under-21 international joined the Stadio Delle Alpi outfit in 1999 for £7m from southern minnows Bari.

He’s been a massive success in Turin, even more so after former boss Marcello Lippi transformed him from a right-winger into a marauding full-back.
