Best player in the world? I was going to open a new thread entitled Totti until i saw this one so saves me the bother
Totti is only a world beater as a Roma player and even that is becoming less and less these days
For the Azzurri , he is very average and when the going gets tough, he loses it one way or another, he either gets himself sent off or spits or just lashes out

For me, he should no more be an automatic for the Nationale as his influence is not all that as i have witnessed of late

I have read so many times that if he was not a Roma player he would have won world's player of the year, thats horseshit, Roma has made him far better than he actually is and if he left for another club he would just be 1 in a crowd and i think deep down he knows this, thats why he would not dare move.

But in sayin all that he would not be a bad addition to any side but do not expect the player who playes so well for Roma cos without his beloved Roma jersey, there is kryptonite all around "superman"
It is true he didn`t do anything special for Italy but for Roma he did a lot he holds the team and he was their key player when they won the scudetto he has great vision and dribbling skills not to mention he can score
There are just two players which are above any other playmakers and those are Totti and Ronaldinho and I think Totti is the better out of the two
at entertaining level is undoubtly Ronaldinho
Actually if we could sign him I would be for it (despite the fact that Totti is an asshole)
But between those two I would choose Ronaldinho since he is younger

Random posters cannot simply close a thread with a statement. Only a Mod can close it. So, since it's still open for business, let us all thank Mr. Moggi, Mr. Bettega, and Mr. Giraudo that Juventus Football Club, Spa. has never entered into discussions over the future of one Francesco Totti - World Class Footballer, World Class Spitter, and all around great guy :yuck:

Unfortunately the same cannot be said of a certain Antonio Cassano...

I really liked the article in this month's Calcio Italia about him -- and I almost never have anything good to say about sportswriters who typically have to make stuff up to seem remotely interesting or thoughtful.

The article, titled "True love or no ambition?," questioned the motivations behind Totti's loyalty to Roma. It went on to argue that he could make a legitimate case to be in the same echelon as Ronaldinho, etc., if he broke away from the Roma backwoods and made a championship-caliber run for glory with a bigger, more capable club.

Sure, he's from the area and has an insanely loyal following. All good things. It mentions how he's a bigger celebrity in town than anyone short of the Pope...and even then there's a case he's even bigger than the fat-ringed one in Rome. He's honored like royalty there, and that has also created a trap for him. Even the mayor of Rome won't leave him alone so that he can continue publicly posturing with him, hoping some of Totti's popularity will rub off.

Afraid of success? Afraid of being a failure if he leaves home? Certainly his performances in big games historically do not reflect favorably upon him as a clutch player. So you have to wonder about his motivations for remaining the biggest fish in a small pond.

i dont doubt totti's ability.he did enough at euro 2000 to show us how good he can be once he's playing well.he's been dissapointing in major tournaments from then onwards, and next year's world cup might well be his best chance of becoming an italian legend.if he fires for italy at the world cup,he can wreck havoc in apposing defences.
ive never questioned his ability, and i never will.i maintain that he is one of the most naturally gifted playmakers italy has prodcued in a long time, his biggest problem is his self destructive attitude.
at 28,he could be approaching the peak of his careers,as this is the age where midfielders generally tend to be at their very best.i do believe that he could have a great season at roma this time around, and even if he doesnt id still keep my fingers crossed at the worldcup.if roma dont do well this season,he could well consider moving abroad and i would bet on Real Madrid as his likely destination.but in all honesty,i dont think he'll ever leave Roma even though he should.
