To be Powerful to begin with.I dont speak for the entire country.Most people over here still believe in Democracy,which can never work in Pakistan.Id take a Dictator any day.

My country isn't particularly powerful, and I'm not seeking power. As long as you're not under threat, there's no need for power.

But there it is.Pakistan is under threat.You have American drones having picnics across out borders,then you have massive security issues inside the country.Our relationship with India gets better,but then it deteriorates etc.These issues will not be solved by a pussy democracy.These issues will be solved by a Dictator who rules with an iron fist.

We've never really talked about it though, so you can't tell what someone is thinking just based on a short comment here and there.

But it's only natural to be worried. If you grab a map of Europe from before the WW1, there's nothing called Poland. That's because in the late 18th century our three powerful neighbors Germany, Russia and Austria decided to divide up the country and take a slice each. For over 100 years there was no Polish state. Incidentally, that's why we fought with Napoleon cause he promised to reinstate the country (desperate times...), and he did, but it was short lived.

So we were completely screwed, but in 1918 we got a country again. Then came WW2 and 50 years under Soviet rule. No wonder we felt immense urgency to join NATO at the first opportunity after 1991.
