Category: General

The Italian Cup second-leg match against Fiorentina is Juventus’s first match home at the Delle Alpi stadium in 2006. The first leg, played on December 1st, ended 2-2: the Viola took a double advantage with Bojinov and Pazzini goals and then the Bianconeri fought back in the second half thanks to goals by Pessotto and Mutu. That was the first of two challenges between Juventus and Fiorentina in four days’ time: on December, 4th, on Serie A’s fourteenth matchday, again at the Artemio Franchi stadium, Capello’s squad managed to get a win in the last minutes of the game thanks to Camoranesi. After first taking the lead with Trezeguet and then conceding the Viola the draw with Pazzini, 43 minutes into the second half the midfielder beated Frey with a precise right-footed drive, giving the Bianconeri the three points.

Since then, Juventus have maintained their record pace in the championship, while the Viola’s ambitions have been slightly scaled down: Prandelli’s side, who was racing for the title back in December, is now fourth in the standings and although they’re not aiming at the Scudetto anymore their firm target is now a place in Champions League. Fiorentina’s slowdown coincides with Toni’s break who, after a flying start, has not been scoring since the thirteenth matchday. On the other hand, Pazzini and Bojinov have shown their great qualities in the goal area, which confirms how good the squad chosen by Della Valle is.

The Viola come from an away draw against Reggina earned on the latest matchday of the championship, while the Bianconeri have started the new year conquering three precious points in Palermo and you can bet that tonight, although a 0-0 or 1-1 draw can do to pass the round, they will play to win as usual.

Source: Juventus.com
