Nah, its the system mainly, its pretty clear considering where he has done well before has also been a 3 man midfield in Benfica, Chelsea and Lyon. He is overwhelmed in a 4-4-2 where he is supposed to lock down the midfield way more, has more covering responsibility, and at the same time has to multi-task and go forward. This 3 man midfield gives more support and less burden, he can just be the balance player to keep things in motion, then compared to what required in a 4-4-2.
