I understand your point but the problem is tiago himself. Its more than obvious that he is a sorry player not worth a fucking penny we spent on him. Its not ranieri's fault that tiago can't successfully slide a pass to a teammate or maintain possession long enough to get rid of the ball when he is challenged. That’s all on the player, not on the coaching staff.

Its kinda like in basketball when someone d's up on you, it’s a natural thing as the ball handler to guard the ball so that the defender has a difficult time accessing it. Or when you make a pass you step into it for power, not just lolly-gag the ball which allows the defenders to pick it off. These are the fundamentals that I saw tiago fuck up on numerously on Saturday. I'm not talking about winning every challenge, I'm talking about holding your own to keep the attack alive. I'm not talking about 30 yd crosses, I'm talking about 5 yd slide passes that are so mundane that no one would expect a professional to fuck up on about 5 times in 1 half of play.
But dawg, your logic and overall assessment of Tiago is flawed because:

1) Against Reggina and Empoli in Serie A Tiago played well, completed his passes, and actually had three assists from those matches. That tally is greater than what Nocerino currently has, which is two. How can Tiago not complete a 5 yard slider yet have three assists that were longer than 5 yard sliders?

2) Tiago started about 30 matches for Chelsea under Mourinho, a season in which they ran away with the league title. Tiago also had five goals that season in the Premiership, so can he only score and not pass?

3) Why would Mourinho state that it was a mistake to sell a player who cannot even perform the basic tasks of football?

I mean, sure, Tiago was terrible on Saturday. Perhaps on that day he couldn't complete a five yard pass (even though he did several times). I just think it really wasn't his day and that with everybody calling him a flop, Ranieri going public in saying he was disapointed with Tiago when he never starts, etc, is really setting him up for failure.

This is starting to remind me of the Mendieta mess with Lazio. He wasn't performing to his calibre during his first season, fans quickly became hostile, and I'll never forget seeing Mendieta walking off the pitch practically crying because boos continuously emanated from the Curva Nord whenever he touched the ball, and this was in February. You can quickly destroy any hope of a player performing to his best and Ranieri might have already done that. So maybe you're right, we should sell Tiago right now.

I think for me the most alarming factor in this Tiago situation is that its been half a season and he still didn't adapt well to the league. Something that was evident last weekend. I know he had an off day as his work rate was not up to standard, but he got caught out many times in the midfield.

I wouldn't sell him, i still think he has a lot to offer to the team. He was brought because he brings something different to the midfield and we will need that in the future.

Who are Regina & Empoli - I think we lost against Empoli last game when he was on??

Tiago started 34 games while in Chelsea, 11 of them were in CL, and he scored only 4 times (not 5). That also means he was substitute 15 times in epl.

Jose said that to Portugese papers.

Tiago Staying In Turin, Declares Agent

Juventus midfielder Tiago might remain in Turin after all that has been mentioned in the Italian press. The player's agent, Roberto Calenda, sets the record straight on his client's future.

According to Calenda, coach Claudio Ranieri seems satisfied with the progress made by the Portuguese midfielder and has decided to keep the player until the end of the season.

"I really think he will remain at Juventus," confirmed Calenda to 'Radio Radio TV'. "We spoke with Ranieri, who was satisfied with the player's performance [against Catania]."

"Tiago is finding some difficulties in acclimatizing himself, but it's without any doubt that he is an important player, for whom Juventus spent a lot of money," he continued.

"We need time for him to prove his worth.

"Our league is tough and for those coming from outside, they need a bit to acclimatize themselves."

Tiago was rumoured to be close to a move to England, with both Portsmouth and Tottenham linked with an 11 million euro move for the player this month.

Nonetheless, he look(ed) good in black&white:

I hope we will see him more as he is good and young player, but it he has to up his game big time. He had enough chances so far, and coach himself was pleased with Tiago's recent work rate. So its up to him and no one else..

One exceptional game is enough to prove his quality, only one , and I haven't seen that as yet.

1) against reggina and empoli he delivered in terms of assists, which is positive. Unfortunately these three moments of joy are the only reason why you might consider giving him another try at juve. Taking aside his assists tiago has barely won any balls and got overrun very often. Nocerino on the contrary ...

2) same story. 433 and not polyvalent. At least that's the impression he's giving. I don't think consider it a plus for a central midfielder if you can't play in a 422.

3) he knows how to play football, but in italy he hasn't impressed on both technical, tactical (even off the ball he seems lost very often) and physical level yet, to say the least...

Last weekend he was terrible indeed. You judged that well.
Look, it's clear that Tiago sees the play better than many others we have (you want to mention nocerino fe), but this is not enough. You might give him a break if he had one decisive moment every game but until now he has been VERY inconsistent. I would even rather call him consistently bad. And even then ... he plays in central midfield ffs, the heart of the game.

Come on... Tiago won several balls against Empoli and stole the ball in Rome against Lazio midfielders twice on their side of the 50, one time sending Trezeguet in alone on goal but for some reason he missed. That would have been four assists.

But I'm through with this. If people can state that Tiago lacks the basic skills of the game and has been consistently very bad yet only making three starts in 18 matches, I can't do anything to change people's minds. They've made up their minds a long time ago about the player and want him out. Lets strike a deal and get rid of both Tiago and Ranieri.

4-4-2 isn't working really effectively with the players we have currently.
Well then maybe our coach should stop "tinkering" with himself and start making the necessary adjustments to utilize our best players in the best formations.

No free pass for coach or player mentioned in this thread though

well I don't think we are finished with either of them. They will both stay till summer, and depending on game plan, result etc, someone else will make decisions. I am giving them until summer to prove us wrong and i hope they will do it well
