That's because the opposition are just having fun. There isn't the competitiveness there is in an official competition. They are just goofing around. Put Ronaldo's friends in Serie A against a team like Napoli or Udinesse and then tell me how easy they are on the eyes.

but you forgot, that not only they, but their opponents also only are having fun ...

what do you consider a pre-season game against some crap serie c team ? sure, they will run a lot, but a class difference should be recognizable . . .

it is not, that he did only play crap against serie a teams... he even played crap when the others did perform good (so no way he can say "but everybody else was crap too")

what i was trying to say is ... a quality player does not forget certain things... it does not matter if you wake him at 2 AM and put him on the field ... he will be able to perform basic tasks like running, controlling a ball and making a pass. it's like bicycle riding, you won't forget how to do it.

tiago did seem to have forgot that it takes much running to play in the midfield ... sometimes it felt like he was dreaming so easy the opponent got the ball from him.

i must admit that i did not follow tiago before he came to us, perhaps he never ran much and always was only a bystander that watched the beautiful green pitch grow instead of moving his ass. in this case the board is to make responsible for that, because that does not work if the others are players do not work for the day dreamer.

Then how come players struggle when they move clubs, when coaches change, etc.?

I don't think it's that he forgot how to play. That notion is simply ridiculous. He merely was not used to the formation, he was pretty much lost tactically. Let's not forget that it was his first season in serie A. Serie A is completely different from the Premiership or the French League, it requires completely different playing styles and a great deal of tactical awareness. Tiago was clueless when it came to those aspects last year, even Nocerino did better than him. We all know that Nocerino isn't exactly a quality player yet he still has a few good runs of form.

Tiago needed time to adjust, his quality is evident. In the past few weeks he has proven that he isn't a complete waste of money and time. He is making some decisive tackles along with fluid passing that gave us more possession of the ball. We need someone like him in the middle, we relied on Zanetti last year. I think Tiago is the most suitable replacement for Zanetti than Poulsen or Marchisio.

how many good players did really struggle with another club ?
quality players will always remain quality and deliver at least something for the good of the team.

there is a great difference between quality players and players who look good, because the team suits them.

ronaldo, zidane, zola, roberto baggio, figo, inzaghi, seedorf to name just a few a quality players ... they did make an impact on every team they played for ...

shevchenko, odonkor, boriello, *insert spaniards in serie a* ... are not quality players, because what they might add to the team does only come out if the team suits their style.

i am not saying that we should have signed one of the above names great quality players, i just wanted to show the difference ...

i think our scouts should have been able to evaluate if some player does great things by himself (even when the team around him sucks) or if he just relies on others to help him.

in a working team even a one-legged could look like he is quality. it's always easy if you have many options to pass to when every other player is running their ass off to receive a ball. that is not difficult.

perhaps they thought that our team would work so great, that tiago would have no problems to get into the game, but as we all know, we were and are in a deeeeep crisis so you can not afford to play tiago in those games.

i find it pretty insulting finding excuses for a player that does not even run 5 km in some games (and there were many games where he was really slow and did not run much like he did not care whats going on).

i do not want to start to tell that i am playing football by myself and do manage to give 3 to 5 assits (or at least balls that enables the striker to shoot from inside of the box) even while playing for a crap team with some retards which get blasted constantly with 8-1 and something.

if you can not deliver or can only play for a team that does good by itself you are not even close to a quality player. (that does not mean that i consider myself a great player, but i don't rely on others to show something)

my personal opinion is that you have to have minimum dribbling skills in midfield for the case that nobody is free to accept a ball.

you have to at least be able to shrugg off one or two opponents to hold the ball until someone makes a run or is free.

that is also a reason why i do not rate xabi alonso that high. if the others do not run into space he can go suck his long balls. afaik isn't he able to hold the ball in midfield until someone gets free. further playing the long ball requires the play to have a certain amount of space ... space you got if you go past an "attacking" opponent, but if you can't get past an opponent and the other team does close down well you can again suck your long balls, because you're worthless in the team.

hell, even sissoko does know how to run past opponents when the midfield is to crowded to make a simple pass.

i do not remember what nedveds first season with us was like.

i am not talking about how it looks like, when he is new. it is clear that you will see that he does not know how his teammates run and so on.

just take thierry henry for an example ... yeah, everyone did say he struggled in barca ... that was the view of the fans, but actually he is class, because even when it might have looked like he is totally out of place there he did deliver 19 goals in 47 games ... so he obviously did not forget how to score even when he was played in a position he was not used to !

no what has tiago to show for ... anything ? hell yeah, i remember he had the luck that one freekick off his did find the head of a juve player who nodded in and that was it
