I find Puyol very overrated. Andy says he doesnt make misstakes like Thuram did, but fact is I've seen him make such misstakes numrous times.
Could you perhaps name a few then? Puyol holds the entire Barca defense together...even though 8 of his players are up field at all times, they still have the second best defensive record in La Liga. Out of all the times I have seen Puyol play, the only bad match I remember is the one against Chelsea last season. Thats pretty much it..

And at least he doesn't always get outmuscled in the air...I would trade Thuram for Puyol in an absolute heartbeat.

TBH, cant name them by mathc, but I do remember him making bad backpasses to the keeper which got cut out by the opposition, and a other silly misstakes.

true, he has improved over the last year or two IMO, he's more experienced and mature, but my point was that noone is immune to those kind of misstakes.

Sian: I really don't know how Terry can be ahead of Nesta or Cannavaro, he's great nobody can deny that, but he's no where to Cannavaro, Fabio gives much more that what Terry gives.

Bomber: your drunk again eh? where's Canna?

Cannavaro is the best defender in the world IMO. I really have no clue why Lucio is in your top ten because he's garbage...Thuram is better than him. Terry and Nesta are all up there as well.

1. Cannavaro
2. Nesta
3. Puyol
4. Terry
5. Carragher
6. Cordoba
7. Thuram
8. Ferdinand
9. Gonzalo Rodriguez
10. Carvalho
almost like mine....

1. Canna
2.Nesta
3.Puyol
4.Terry
5.Lucio
6.Carvalho

Btw, Ferdinand is the most over-rated player I've seen.

Puyol is someone who has every physical quality a defender could ask for, someone who can do a given job well when he is only required to defend his goal and mark his man. But he is careless and sometimes even inept when it gets complicated. He cannot read the game whatsoever and only sees the obvious most of the time, if you watch him enough you will notice he has no qualms about leaving his man to go after the one with the ball instead of noticing the gaping hole he leaves for a through ball, loves to commit very early instead of waiting for the best opportunity to dive in and bad decision making hurts you the most at the back. And when he has the ball at his feet lets just say he's better off finding the closest guy and passing it as soon as possible or simply booting it up the field because he's not Mexes or Maldini on the ball. That said he is nearly unbeatable man on and if the ball is there for the taking he will, his tenacity and courage are unmatched.

I think your losing prespective of situation.

I recognize that he is one of the top defenders, but has seen tarzan Puyol making his share of mistakes, like everyone. There is not such thing as Mr. perfect CB, but when in shape and fit, Thuram can offer performances about as good as it gets. Probably the only CB that has been considered constantly between the top ten defenders in the world for the last 8 years.

He as been a fundamental part of the team from the moment he arrives, and his regularity and coolness has given him the brace of capitan when Alex isnt in the pitch.

To be honest, i woundnt change our pair of CB for any other in the world......

I'm sorry, but the top CB's of this world do not mistakes in the most important matches of the season..
