I wonder if he will look to the center backs to be his extra mids or whether he will do it with his fullbacks. With our players, assuming Danilo and Cambiaso are starting I think it would reallt work well if they join in the midfield when we have the ball. Especially Cambiaso (I think he has the potential to really have a great season and establish himself properly).

It is always different at a big club, the patience is not there but I hope he doesn't go into his shell or be too conservative. Being a player that has played at the top level and been successful you'd hope he doesn't.

Hm, who will be our liberos? Calafiori yes, if we get him. I can't see Bremer having the guile of ball. Neither do I see Danilo, maybe Gatti but he's more likely to score an Own goal. I'm thinking Djalo is the best fit with his pace but I've not seen him on the ball much. Sadly Huijsen would be a perfect partner alongside Calafiori but I don't see us keeping him.

Douglas Luiz makes perfect sense as that crucial DM that comes back but also turns into attacking mid. Also I'm not so sure Cambiaso fits the system because he will need to come in to play as a centre back, some adjusting required from him. How good is Di Gregory on the ball? from what I heard not so good. He needs to be as he's crucial for the sweeper keeper role. Vlahovic turning into a zirkzee is a big ask. The only area I'm not too worried about is the wings, Chiesa fits well as does Yildiz. Unpopular opinion but I think kostic fits Mottas system and could be rejuvenated as I think during his frankfurt days he used to often find himself as the player with lots of space on the flank and told to attack. Weah is a no go, the guy can barely stick to one position never mind cutting in to cover.

From what I understand he can do everything. Well rounded midfielder. Him and Fagioli would make a great double pivot behind Koopmeiners if that happens.

Not sure what you mean. My point is that while Motta is fairly inexperienced as a coach, compared to Pirlo he has had the chance to hone is ideas and put them into practice. In PSG youth, in Spezia, in Genoa and in Bologna. Learn how to communicate those ideas into players, convince them about these ideas and fine tune and adapt the ideas. Pirlo has zero (experience) in the bag and couldn't distill anything to anyone. Not even the staff could understand him. Motta has also two teams that he really struggled (maybe partially because of him?), those are good experiences to have for managing a group that is in a rut (how to deal with motivation). In Genoa he failed but anything else would have been a surprise. A good personal experience to learn from. In Spezia he managed to turn the it around and did really well in a challenging environment (impending transfer bans etcetera). In Bologna he took over from Mihajlovic - difficult circumstances and good experiences on how to manage a group again, especially on a personal level. Yet managed to improve Bologna immediately and aid them well above what everyone expected. Then continued to improve the next season and did even better. Not sure why they lost their form toward the end of the season though, iirc they drew a lot.

What I look forward to learn more about next season is how tactically flexible he is. If things aren't working in a game (or the overall form), does he change anything tactically or does he just change players because he is hell bent in his idea or the idea doesn't allow flexibility. Allegri used to be tactically flexible and able to transfer his determination and grinta into players. Zero ideas on how to play but flexible. In his second stint he had grinta, which he partially transferred, but nothing else. Hardly any tactic yet for some reason stuck in his head. He had two years of paid vacation and came back into a difficult environment with a poorly set up squad. Seems to me that his head was not in the game. Lost the motivation on some beach some years ago.

I hope that Motta brings his philosophy and is able to adapt it to the tools at his disposal and is flexible enough to change details due to circumstances. If he also is a likeable character, he will do well. Because that is my description of Ancelotti.

In football terms, his core ethos wasn't formed in Brasil or Italy. But Barcelona. Most forget he joined them as a child and started out as pro with them.


His style is combo of barca possession/Dutch total footie style mixed Italian tactical balance and bit of Gasperini/German type team pressing.
