David Beckham was once up for the FIFA World Player award. Rafael Van der Vaart won this "prize" last year, and he looks like another extremely overrated player. This Tuttosport "prize" should be renamed the "Media's Golden Boy" prize, because that is all the award is.

I love it how you keep throwing all this media stuff at us Freddy, it helps me prove my point.

Yeah, and Owen once won the golden ball. :)

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has won the 'Golden Boy' prize for the best young player in Europe.
The England forward received the prize from Italian newspaper Tuttosport after topping a journalists' poll to find the outstanding footballer under 21.

Rooney, 19, finished ahead of team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, Fernando Torres, Arjen Robben and Obafemi Martins.

"As far as I am aware, this is the first international trophy I have won," said a delighted Rooney.

Ajax forward Rafael van der Vaart was last year's winner of an award Tuttosport hope will become regarded as the young player's equivalent of the European Footballer of the Year.

no one said other wise, but do you agree with people who say things like "if a striker gets 20 goals in the serie a he'd get 30 in the EPL"?
that may not neccessarily be a fact, but it's certainly a better comparison than the reverse.

Once again, Alan Smith proved me correct as he was a far more effective player than Wayne Rooney in Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Fulham.
However, Cristiano Ronaldo provided the guys who say he is overrated with more ammunition.
I accept, Rooney might be marginally better based on what I saw at the Cottage yesterday.
But they aren't Juve players, so who gives a f**k?

Ronaldo terrorized the right flank, but he could not get any good crosses into the box. The only thing I saw Rooney doing was GIVING THE BALL AWAY in midfield. Alan Smith looked great yesterday, really threatening the Fulham defense. His goal shows how bad EPL defenses are though.

As I have always said. The EPL just has excitement. If you are looking for REAL quality football, please look elsewhere.
How many EPL players played the last World Cup final match (or Olympic final match)?
Please don't give me names of people who moved after the matches in question.:(

Oh remind me again about the teams that played the olympic as i do remeber it was Argentina and someother country but do not remember who it was and how its relevant to whether a league is good or not is beyond my comprehension. well since you guys are so anti English, why do u actually bother watching English football and from what i gather i might be wrong but you are a Nigerian living in Italy so what the hell are you doing reading an English paper. My advice to you guys if you hate the bloody league so much , do not watch it as its filled with over rated players. Or let me guess, you wanna see how the Nigerians in the league are performing, is that it? I mean Mr i have all the talent in the world but i have no idea how to channel it Okocha or is the one paced, miss from 1 yard kanu that are the only saving grace of the Epl to you?

The irony is that it was actually an Italian paper who took it upon themselves to make such an award but oh no , its not to your liking so you have to show your displeasure for the umpteemth time to remind us how much you hate the English and their tendency to overhype

If it burns you so much ignore their papers and do not watch their league, then you would be spared the pain of reading and watching what u regard as trash

Erm, sorry, I am a Nigerian that moves between Nigeria, England, and Dubai. I happen to be a Roman Catholic, so I get to Rome once every little while.

Hey Denco, can we resume hostilities on the EPL Bullshit thread? I think that's more appropriate to what you are saying.

Meanwhile, I stand to be corrected, but I don't think that England has produced any true footballing talent since Gazza.
