By reading this Marotta interview, I cleansed any false hopes that we would end up investing in the summer and build a strong ( Scudetto-winning strong!) team for the next year. Even if we would miss it by a few points, CL qualification would be certain. New stadium, higher revenues, fans getting the treatment they deserve, etc... in one word - progress. But no, regress is the word of the day with our current management.
I don't even know why the EU rule is being mentioned. My only hopes was that Marotta is feeding journalists with fake info on our targets so we can set up a few quick deals at the beginning of the market... But then I thought - what will the performing players think when they read this shit? How will Aguero, for instance, want to arrive here when our transfer targets would be deemed unworthy for his 'small club'? The boy has a head on his shoulders and Madrid would have been the last place he wants to go to, but if they are the only team that can offer him the chance to develop and win titles - well, then that is a rather professional decision, one that he simply cannot refuse as a professional.
We are chasing Bastos and other small timers because Marotta has the will to prove he is the new Messiah? The new Moggi or what? Do we have the chance to not play Bastos and still grind results? No. Shall we get on completely another level when he will play? No.
One of those two questions should be in his mind all the time. If we are getting a squad player - the first one should always be yes. We cannot depend on him. If we are looking to build something bigger - then it is the second question that must be answered with 'yes'. So he will take funds, non-EU spot, air-time from the GM of Juventus for a key player and wouldn't be one for us? But also he wouldn't be good for the squad either because of his high costs.
Marotta is in my opinion our main transfer target this summer. Either he brings top players starting July 1st or by the 2nd he should prepare a loan with the duty to buy deal for himself to anywhere.
I want Agueros and I want them in numbers! Have an 18 man squad and fill the rest with youngsters, but make sure that those 18 contribute properly to the team with their respective status. Fight for one goal next year and if we are lucky we could be making cosmetic buys in the next two transfer windows.
