I don't know why some would want Quag in that role, similar to what I was saying with Hazard being the guy behind the front three. Having Quags as the front-runner is too Barca-ish, no targetman or poacher around to remain in the box for crosses. He likes to roam around much, much more. So you'd end up not having any poaching presence in the box, something that doesn't work for everyone.

Well.. If the manager can get the team moving well off the ball, i don't think we'd need a real poacher. If its a 4-3-3 with wingers who cut in well, you would prefer having a floating CF..

Having a static target man/poacher type striker is becoming something of the past.

This puts it better than I could. http://www.zonalmarking.net/2010/02/21/how-the-2000s-changed-tactics-6-the-death-of-the-poacher/
Robbie Fowler. :howler: Come on.

I'd say the pure out and out poachers are certainly on the decline, but somebody who can poach and get into those tight positions are clearly still desirable. A lot of the time it does depend on the system. And of course it helps that the centre forward can contribute to build up play, which is obviously desirable as well. So nah, I wouldn't choose an Inzaghi-like player. Guys like Pazzini, Gomez, Barrios, Cavani, et cetera still act as poachers and get into good positions, but can also come back for the ball. That's the sort of player I'd want in the middle of the trident.

And that's a pretty sorry article to basically blame Ruud for Manure's lack of title wins. Clearly hyperbole.
