a formation's purpose is designed to get the best out of the players, in order to achieve maximum results, would barca be as successful with their current crop of players if they switched to another formation? just as we would if we adopted a 4-3-3? i highly doubt it.

because it just wont, we dont have the players for it. take the 4-2-3-1 for example, melo has already shown that he can't play in a regista position and alongside sissoko how the hell do we intend to service the ball out of our own half to the forwards?

secondly we don't have a true central attacking midfielder, certainly marchisio and aquilani would fail in this role, and above all else, we lack a prolific striker upfront

so no need to try, its common sense it will fail.

with our current fullbacks that can't even penetrate in attack? as i said we dont have the right players, further more again, we dont have a mobile enough striker upfront to play alone.

Who says the fullbacks have to attack? Anyways forget it, I don't think 4-4-2 is our best option , parma play a 4-3-3 and their 3 cm's are of much lesser quality then ours

It's not about the quality but suitability to the roles.

To me, a 4-3-3 might work with the players we have though.

if anything the defeat to parma only proves my point, it proves that marchisio and aquilani in the middle are not adequate and unbalanced, having had melo for the entire game and quagliarella i doubt very much we would have even lost to parma. But at the same time we cant just say, ok we've lost 2 in a row, ok lads we're switching to 4-3-3, so you play here, pepe play there, krasic over on the right, and do your thing and hope for the best, it took a some weeks at the season to get the players this season to adopt Del Neri's system. As they say, Rome wasn't built in a day, but judging by how fickle many fans can be, they think changes bring immediate results.

however it's time we start getting ready for a future without the 4-4-2, look at Manchester united they switch formation like every game and can get accustomed to it. The same formation WILL NOT work against the same team. This is differentiates from the Manager of the year and and a regular manager.

How did you come up with that? We were just saying that 4-3-3 can be used with the players we have.

And if Del Neri can't play something besides 4-4-2, then he sucks. But he has already played variations of 4-3-3 already.

why not? as far as i remember barcelona havn't dropped playing the 4-3-3 since antic left the club and before he took charge.

formations are irrelevant to how a manager performs, if it works, and the chemistry is right, then it is a winning formula and there is no need to change. If barcelona were to begin losing their next several games, they wouldn't just change the formation, just the personnel. So why should we?
