What does VDW have to do with this? Johnson can be very good offensively but he's a disaster defensively.

VDW is one of the hottest prospects right now, Johnson is not.
They are RB's who are linked to us and both suck defensively.

I agree about the second part, I prefer VdW to all RB's right now.

But we were discussing Johnson, we weren't even discussing VDW.

Anyway, how did you come to the conclusion that he sucks defensively?
I have seen him play many times, but that's not a reason to not like him as most RB's now are all about going forward.

Yes.
We got back 66% or 2/3 of the money we paid for Diego and we got it, of course, from a German club because he was already proven in Germany.

If we pay 30m eur for Dzeko and he flops, you can be sure that there will be at least one German club willing to pay us 20m eur for him.
If we pay 30m eur for a 19 year old Brazilian who flops in his first season in Europe then I don't see any other European club willing to pay us 20m eur while the Brazilian teams can't pay us 20m even if they would like to have Neymar.

Milan bought Pato for...20m? If he flopped in his first season and Milan put him on the transfer list, do you think any team was going to offer them more than 5-10m? On the other hand, there was always going to be a rich Italian team willing to go over 25m eur for Zlatan even after his bad season in Barcelona.

The question was who can bring us more money in case both Dzeko and Neymar flop here and I have no doubt that it's gonna be Dzeko. Although, I don't even want to look at the possibility that our new expensive striker will be a flop.
Excellent analysis.

Not quite.

We bought Amauri for 20m + Nocerino, which should total the amount to 25m at least. I don't believe anyone would even pay 10m for him now. Realistically his value right now should be 5-6m.

IIRC, Milan bought Pato for 10/12m, not 20.

Alves is world class, his stamina is absolutely unreal, and he's not as bad defensively as he's made out to be.
Easy now. He's playing for Barca. A team that do not allow the opponent to have the ball. He's lack of defensive style is no problem in Barca. When he played for Sevilla he made a lot of mistakes. Maybe he's better now, but the way Barca play, help's him a lot.

That is true. But i've always thought that one on one, he was a good defender, its not easy to get past him. His positional sense and the fact that he leaves a lot of space behind are still deficiencies in his defensive game, but still his defensive game is better than people give him credit for.
