As many of you have suggested, the key of our mercato this year is how can we do with the flops we have.. However, after the disastrous season we had.. it is indeed difficult to sell our players e.g. Grygera, Tiago, Grosso, Poulsen etc.

This is actually a problem created by Secco who has zero insight in the future market value of the players. we have too many players at their late 20's/early 30's when their salaries are high and at the same time they have only a few years of professional football in them with zero if not negative potential of improvement.

The teams that can afford them will need more proven quality for a 30 year old player otherwise they will go for some promising talent. While the teams that need those 2nd tier players can't afford to pay their wage.

the situation created by Secco & Co. might not be solved in this year. As our deadwoods can't be sold that easily as in FM or whatever. Other clubs are not stupid enough to risk on paying high wages for players like Tiago and Grosso.

Fortunately, the purchase made by Marrota so far are either young players or 27-30 year old players with loan deals with option to buy (except J.Martinez who I don't really know well). I can see Marotta have been doing so much better than Secco in that sense.

However, the fact that our flops are difficult to offload doesn't change no matter how good Marotta is and we might need to wait another 1 or 2 years when those players' contracts expire. And we might need to wait till then before we can see some of the dream teams in this wish list thread.

this actually makes sense.and the worse part is the players, season we're gonna lose while trying to control the damage caused by that incompetent jerk.

This is actually the worst part of the soccer club business.
The risk of the players losing their market value happens together when the team performs badly and both the future income and fan base may be affected by the performance.

This is like a double hit when your team plays badly.

And this risk was maximized as Secco purchased players who are difficult to sell.

Wouldn't it have been simpler to buy young players and one or two mid 20's players like Krasic then to buy Pepe and Martinez?

:jck2:
A statement like that is not completely fair I think.

We need depth for a 442, the purchase of Pepe and Martinez has not lowered Marottas desire for Krasic. Pepe deal is great, he is not a flashy player, but to the price it is a very good deal. I've read somewhere that Martinez deal is similar and nd other places that we bought him outright. I don't know what is right here, but if it is similar to Pepe's it is also a very good deal.

Nonetheless, I think Martinez can do well, but we'll have to wait and see. The mercato is not over. What worries me is the missing sales. But how can you blame clubs for not wanting our players? However, we need sales before see any additions.

It is something like to players in and 5 out for our sqaud to be a decent size. Seems like it is quite a task for Marotta, if we're not just to give them away.

If Man City sign Balotelli and Dzeko we should bid for Adebayor. At least then we can still get a good striker who is surplus to their requirements. I also think we should try for Ireland he would be a good player for us to have.
