So we should not sign quality players because they played in the same league as flops?

The Dutch league is a good league but it's hardly up to scratch with la liga, EPL or even Siere A, so many players have looked like Gods in that league only to move to one of those 3 and completely underwhelm. Of course you can point to the van bastens and crujiffs but you are talking about a time when it was one of europe's finest. Take babel, gomez and kromkamp for example. Having said that they're are still some real gems eg suarez, you just have to be extra careful when you buy players from that league nowadays.
Seeing as this is the all important CB spot people harp on about constantly wouldn't you rather pay for somebody who is experienced and proven at top league level rather than pay some big ass inflated price tag for somebody who could flop so easily? Then we're back to square 1 again and we're out of pocket even more?

I get your point to a degree, but these players are scouted, and even if the league level matters, is not THAT big of a factor to dismiss quality just because of it. He can flop just like anyone in a lesser level would in the big 3 leagues (flops everywhere).

And for every Krompkamp (who the heck rated him?) I can mention a Alex, who played in the same team even. So yeah, factor it in, but dont be too quick to dismiss players on that alone.

Lucio, Juan, Luisao, Alex, Pepe (still brazilian, same with Bruno Alves, Brazilian-Portuguese), Thiago Silva, Cris, Naldo, Maicon, Dani Alves, Filipe, Marcelo, Rafinha (I could go on).

Name italian defenders bar Nesta and Chiellini who are even on par with most of the above players in their respective positions please.

Only problem Juan has is being injury prone, otherwise he is a VERY competent defender.

This BS stereotype about brazilian defenders have been outdated for a very long time, they have been producing real excellent defenders who play or played in top clubs. Its time you perhaps catch up on this reality.

If you are telling me to match the above players?
Well for starts we'll take lucio and Juan out of the equation seeing as you've tried to put me at a point of disadvantage by telling me I can't mention Nesta or Chiellini, and if we were to compare them the Italian paring is much much better.
So it would be reasonable to suggest that cannavaro is on par or greater than Luisao or even alex? I think so.
Pepe I can find no equal for so I guess you get me on that one.
Say we put criscito in thiago silvas postion at AC Milan, I'm pretty sure he would impress there too.
The fullbacks are obviously better because of their attacking qualities which the italians seem not to have, I don't even cont Brazilian RB or LBs as defenders because they attack that much they are pretty much wingers most of the time.
Your list runs pretty thin in my mind when you suggest Marcello, Santon is easily his equal or superior.
Naldo I would say is on a par with gamberini
felipe is good but then so again is Brochetti.
Get my drift? I think they are good, but carry massive price tags and some are just over average which can easily be matched with Italian CB's

I would take Naldo over Gamberini without a doubt, Bocchetti isn't a proven, seasoned player like Juan or Pepe, and Alex is pretty good albeit not yet at his prime.

You just picked the weakest 2 players I mentioned and put them with the strongest Brazilians mentioned

Well even you have to frigging admit the Brazilian defence easily trumps Italy's (in quantity and quality, in depth). You are right in Gamberini being close to Naldo, even if I prefer Naldo from what I seen, but come on man, Santon is only younger, Marcelo is defenitely better (weak defending, but great offensively, he is 3 years older, and defenite excellent talent).

And Thiago Silva certainly trumps Criscito and is the better CB, Criscito who is barely average as CB (doesnt cut it there, not for US and not for Genoa, liability as CB), but quite decent/solid as LB (even if off this season). And no, not only because they are attacking, Brazil blows Italy out of the water in FBs (Grosso and Zambro can defend for shit now, Grosso never could), in fact they pretty much revolutionized that positiion so no one comes even close (except frenchies).

The Filipe I mentionned is the very good LB of Deportivo, not Fiorentina one (isnt even on the C squad of Brazil), who btw is quite capable at defending.

I'm the one who gives leeway to Cannavaro due to experience and reading the game well despite his decline, but he is pretty rusty and slow, so even if I havent seen Alex in a while, would prolly choose him over todays Canna.

I named those names to remind you of their selection (Cris for example, you prolly havent seen, but has been really good for quite few years now), which is easily better then Italy's current one. Not because I rate them all highly, Luisao I rate the lowest, and he is still prolly on par with Italy's 3-4th choices, but just saying they quite excellent seleciton of defenders, and you should show some respect instead of deem brazilian defending crap when its the contrary (seen Dunga's brazil? Their defending is ace).

Their depth for some years has been to a degree that Pepe wasnt a priority which lead him to choosing Portugal out of silly impatience. Players like Alex, Naldo and several real good FBs never even get called up. While in Italy, Chiellini cant find a single partner who helds similar level, and for FBs have to try out every joe with italian passport in the league, from Napoli, to Genoa, to Palermo etc etc.
