I guess there is a new legend is approaching....
Boniperti back for Italy Friday 4 December, 2009
Nearly 49 years after Juventus legend Giampiero Boniperti last played for Italy, his grandson Filippo has been called up to play for the Under-19s.
The 18-year-old who plays for Juventus's Primavera made a name for himself last year when he scored a hat-trick for the Allievi against Modena.
Filippo crept back on to the radar a week ago when he scored a goal for the Juventus Primavera in their 2-0 victory over Genoa in the Coppa Italia.
“I am very happy, but I am not surprised. But it's too soon to tell if this call up is the confirmation of his jump in quality,” his famous grandfather said.
“I have never thought of him as my heir. I have always been happy by his desire to work in sport. For now, it's going well,” he concluded.
Filippo plays in central midfield and, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport: “has nice technique, good dribbling and a discreet shot.”
The Italy Under-19 squad will gather for a training camp in Borghesiana from December 6th. No official matches have been planned but it's a chance for new trainer Massimo Piscedda to get to know his players.
