With this quality and age, he could have been among world's best defenders if not for the endless injuries.

He had many long term injuries anyhow, despite him being a very good defender I think the risk would be too big.

We spent too much already, now we can't, or I just wouldn't gamble.

Is his injury can't be recovered 100%? I don't know what kind of injury he had? I don't think it was knee injury or leg fracture. Those 2 injuries is the most hard to recover i think. I just remember that Zapata has long spell injury in the start of last season. After that he recover well, he play for 26 matches for them in all competition last season then. And this season he is injury free for Udinese, play for them since beginning of the season.

If he still good, i'd say he is better option than Kjaer and Ranocchia. Still young but has more experienced than those two. Might be his price won't be expensive as before because there aren't lot of clubs interested in him like in the past

Even Cannavaro has long spell injury (knee if i'm not wrong) when we buy him from Inter. That's why Inter give us a discount price
