That US center back Oguchi Onyewu was right up there too maybe a little better defensively. he's really good. might only cost us 5 or 6 million. we should get him.

It's not about giving credit. I wasn't talking about the US national team, Ahmed went that road and brought it up into the discussion. I just found it funny that he was mentioned. In my opinion, he doesn't seem like a very good player, atleast not a player of Juventus' calibre. The tournament doesn't prove anything to me. If a good performance was put in a WC tournament, I would give a player much more praise and respect.

You don't get it dont you. Please read my previous posts. It might have been the best Spanish 11 possible on paper, they still weren't motivated and didn't perform as they usually do.

I would love to hear your explanation for why it was this way...and please try to make it logical if you can

As I said in my previous post, if a "worse" team isn't excessively tacticly superior, in this case USA, they couldn't beat a 100% Spain. Luck might help you out with a goal or so, but luck alone wont make you win a match. Anyway I feel that I've proved my point about this defender. You don't even seem to bother reading through my posts carefully so why continue this endless discussion.

You have your opinion and I have mine. According to what I've read from you and your reactions, you support this player going to Juve. Well my view is that he's nowhere near a player that would suit a major European team. So lets end it here.

Bottom Line is:

US showed guts, passion, and desire. Did Spain show up to play or not? Were they even remotely interested? These are all irrelevant questions. It's not the US's problem that Egypt were so naive and predictable; it's not their fault that Spain neglected their defensive duties. They played to their strengths, and credit is due.

I don't like the US winning in any sport, except Basketball, but I was very impressed by their performances. Hats off to them for showing the world that someone still gives a shit about their National team.

This is not the "player appreciation thread". This is the Juventus wishlist thread where you list players that would suit Juve. I believe this guy is nowhere near the Juventus standard.

I also don't judge a player based on 5 fixtures like some people over here.

Onyewu cleaned the box every single time the ball was central,, made it look piss easy, to the point Brasil changed up and specialized in giving crosses and corners to the far post, just to avoid him and challenge the fullbacks or whoever is covering that spot at the time. And they scored twice from in that area. But otherwise, centrally, it was total shutdown from the Gooch.

I'm not sure how he works when he is more exposed ( suffer with pace or not, gets onfocused etc), and doesnt such a tight knit unit of team defending in numbers, but bottomline, the guy has quite good qualities and instinct (Can never be sure with some regardless of how impressive they look, but he is at the very least Legro-Mellberg level).

Since I live in that small, non existing country somewhere in Europe, I have watched a lot of him these past few seasons.
A few years ago I didn't rate him at all, but he has definitely improved, especially this past season. Was absolutely vital for Standard in the big games. In fact he was probably the best CB in the "Jupiler League".

If you were to ask me if he's ready to go to a big club, I couldn't give you an answer.
Being (one of the) the best in Belgium means very little. He still is quite clumsy at times and can regularly be caught out of position. Then again his physical qualities are great and he has a decent tackle.

I see absolutely no chance of him going to Italy though. He has made it clear that he would like to give the EPL another go, despite failing there earlier.

Good post. I think so too, also since we're only allowed to register 2 Non-EU players per season makes it difficult. Where as in the fucking Premiership he's played enough games for the US National Team to easily earn a work permit to play there.

I wouldn't go for Onyewu, he plays for Standard Luik in Belgium.
he is out of contract now so we could get him for free but I have serious doubt about him
he is really slow and too physical, he gets a lot of cards and btw he went to Newcastle a couple of years ago and he was a major dissapointment even though he would be perfect for the Premier League
he is by no means Juve material, solid player but nothing special
on another not, Tuttosport claims Inter are buying youngsters in Holland and Belgium
anybody knows who they are talking about?

Some other members judged him based on that. I said that from what I've seen he isn't Juve standard, but wont say he's anything for us based on the tournament. He simply haven't proved himself for me. Do you really believe he's worth it, or are you writing this to pointlessly drag this on?
