In October of 2008, while playing an international fixture against Chad, Diarra was stretched off the field after receiving a blow to his knee. He was rested for a month and made another appearance in late November, but was forced to go under the knife after he aggrevated his knee once more. He has since been ruled out for the rest of the season due to his injury. He was de-registered from Real Madrid's first team and his number 6 was given to new signing Lassana Diarra.

The guy missed full season and the knee problem is probably serious.
Terrific player. One of the most influental in Real's La Liga wins in 2006/07 and 2007/08. But that Andrade episode is not making me feel very comfortable about this.

But Azzurri play with a deep-lying playmaker, who we lack. If we wanted to play that way, we should have bought D'Agostino and Rossi ahead of Diego.

Ive noticed Elano's name mentioned a few times in Tuttosport. Could he play the role we want D'Agostino to play? Ive never really been too impressed by him but id prefer someone with his qualitys instead of Diarra.

I think he is alot like Mascherano while Mahamudou is more like De Rossi.

Its the reverse in fact, Mamadou is the sit infront of the defence pure DM destroyer (slowish and not a good passer, typical DM) while Lassana can provide other qualities too because he is a dynamic and well rounded player. But neither are like De Rossi, who is a box to box mid who is also a strong defender.

But Mamadou is pure ownage in terms of ballwinning skills, so he is real good.

Santacroce sees Napoli future Wednesday 17 June, 2009

Talented youngster Fabiano Santacroce has already been linked to some of Italy’s biggest clubs but according to the player’s agent Napoli is his future.

Speaking to TuttoNapoli.net, Antonio Dall’Aglio explained that for the half Italian half Brazilian defender there have been no offers yet.

“Juventus have made no offer for my client,” said Dall’Aglio.

“But Napoli is in our future. Fabiano wants to be part of Roberto Donadoni’s project.

“Furthermore, we cannot deal with someone else if Napoli don’t allow us to. We are tied by a contract with them.”

Santacroce is regarded as one of the most promising youngsters in Serie A. In the past he has been linked to Fiorentina, Milan and Spanish outfit Barcelona.

Despite an average campaign with Napoli, where he also had some behavioural problems, the defender is still rated highly by the calcio experts and maintains a good reputation on the transfer market.

He would be super nice instead for Legro as the 3rd CB. Kid is growing to be dynamite capable CB, tall, strong marker who gives you quite little space. But there is a murmur of us getting Santacroce in the deal for De Ceglie's half, so that would be even better too.

He played that exact same position for Santos, the hardworking ulitily side CM/LM/RM who supplemented the AM, who was teenage Diego back then too. No, he isnt that defensively strong, but Elano is quite hardworking, have good work ethic, so isnt some lazy attacking mifield, but puts in quite the effort.

Has well rounded skills in terms of passing and great shooting, works well enough as a CM, so he doesnt need to be just in an advanced position of a AM or winger (which he doesnt suit as, his versatility can be a burden for him).

Santacroce is more ill discliplined, erratic and rash (needs the calmness of Bocchetti), but he still quite obviously very talented (with a knack of having his best games against us). So far, I would say his ceiling is potentially higher then Bocchettis, though his weakest performances is quite worse then Bocchetti's.

He would prolly say this of any of the younger CBs around, but Ciro said this of him:

“He is undeniably one of the best youngsters in his role.”
