Melo is more then just a defensive player. And De Rossi is DEFENITELY more then a defensive player, in LOTS of ways:

He is actually the kind of player that is absolutely perfect for a diamond midfield supporting a Trequartista, because De Rossi is essentially a Box to Box mid who is very good going forward, but tends to be seen as a DM due to his competent defensive work, but really isnt the ideal role for him.

I know what sort of players they are, Oz. I'm just saying that having those three players in midfield without much support on the wings won't do us any good. We either need someone who can attack on the wings in midfield or invest the money on quality wingbacks.

But Essien provides drive like no other, not even De Rossi. We have Diego and Melo for finesse, while Essien on the right side would be freaking incredible.

I agree with that regarding fullbacks, thought you just meant midfield.
