I was writing an article about this topic and I thought I’d share it with you guys. It’s pretty interesting. I don’t know if you’ve ever read in World Civilizations when the Roman Empire was defeated by the Persians around 614 AD. In the Quran there is actually a chapter called The Romans. It reveals a prophecy that Prophet Mohammad(s) made about the Roman defeat.
“ The Romans have been defeated, In a nearer land but they after being defeated will soon be victorious, Within a few years; God’s is the authority before and after; and on that day the believers shall rejoice, With the aid of God; Aideth He whomsoever He willeth; And He is the All-mighty, the All-Merciful,( This is) the promise of God ”
The Pagans of Mecca rejoiced at the defeat of the Christians and began taunting the Muslims because they thought the fate of the Muslims would be the same. This verse was revealed to console Muslims who were saddened by the defeat of the Christians. At that time there was a close bond between Muslims and Christians, who were both considered enemies of the idol-worshipers( they both followed similar scriptures). The prophecy was fulfilled nine years after it had been made ( 624 AD)when Heraclius defeated the fire-worshiping Persians and the Muslims defeated the Pagans at Badr.

This exact topic was highly discussed recently after some Sunni sheikhs said that Sunnis can't support the Sheeah Hezbollah against Israel...That was a lame justification for the strange attitude of the Arab governments regarding the current events in Lebanon...

The story of Muslim sympathy with Romans against Persians was the way that was used to deny the opinion of rulers' sheikhs...

If the Muslim can sympathize Romans, why can't he support his Muslim brother where the only difference between them is the way of looking to some Sahabis??

Did you write this or was it also taken from the source? Calling Persians fire-worshipping is as ignorant as calling Christians "cross-worshippers". They were worshippers of Zarathustra, and considered fire a holy element.

I don't really understand what youre getting at . I've never heard Christians called "cross worshippers" and they don't worship a cross. How is it ignorant? If someone worshipped a candle or sumthing you would call them a candle worshiper. Its not meant as an offense-it is simply a fact.

Um, that's the point. They weren't fire worshippers, they were worshippers of the god Zarathustra. There are still millions of Zoroastrianists in the world today, why don't you ask them? I'm sure they'd take great offense in being called fire-worshippers.

Not everyone in that period worshipped fire, but thats not saying fire worshippers existed. However the main issue was idol worshippers, which was very frequent in them periods.

Wrong, right and right, rather. Of course you're right about Ahura Mazda, I don't know what I was thinking of. However, Zoroastrianism is a monotheistic religion, a religion where only one God is worshipped. Fire is considered holy and a way to reach this God, but it's in no way worshipped. And yes, there are millions of them, especially in India and the States. Even some numbers in Iran (used to be many more though before 1979). The ones in India are called "Parsi", i.e. Persian by the locals, and are told to have their roots from ancient Persian refugees, from the Islamic conquest.

But the point is, fire-worshipper is completely incorrect, and was used as a derogatory term by Arabs for the Persians, just as the Persians used "Tazi" (Arab hound) for Arabs
