That article suggests getting rid of 3 month summer vacations (I always knew it as 2 months). Are they crazy? That's the best part of childhood.
In the UK we got 6 weeks max, which has now been replaced by a 4 week break. The only reason for summer breaks historically is for kids to go home and help parents tend to the family farms in the run up to harvest, its no longer relevant and its a pain in the arse for everyone involved, i used to get fucking bored on my summer break and it was only 6 weeks long.

However it originated, it would be so cruel to take it away.

They should add one more; getting up early and work/study etc.

Did you read the section on the summer holiday? I haven't read the article in ages but im fairly sure it advocates having longer holidays and half term breaks etc. so the holidays are evenly distributed rather than having 3 months away from education which is damaging to the learning process and fucks up your parents jobs.

3 months out of school doesn't seem damaging to the learning process at all. Maybe if you're a dumbass who does bad in school anyways.

Who gets fat in the summer anyways? You're either at the beach or playing sports. I like cracked but it seems like that article was written by some nerd.

Not true. Concerning children; the vacation should be planned, when it best suits their everyday needs and learning.

Agreed childhood is meant to be enjoyed. As an adult you have to work all the time with minimal vacation so why not have leisure time as a kid...
Maybe it's just us leisurely islanders :D

Meh, summer is the vacation (especially in temperate countries with the winter season). You just get to fuck around for 2 months (or however long). Just perfect.

The first few entries of that Cracked article are retarded, wth is wrong with QWERTY and Cursive? And summer vacations? Only a nuisance if longer than 2 months. Otherwise a childhood gem.

But then again it is Cracked, never meant to be taken seriously yet there are the odd few brilliant articles.
