Juventus was the first European football side I heard of back in the day. Remembered the name because it was unusual. Saw my first match on tv and was hooked. When I started to get involved with the game at an early age the MLS wasn't around yet.

I don't think there's a reason not to support your own national team. It's least someone can do. It's not a matter of politics, not a matter of war. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever to not cheer for your own country.
So you support them because of their success.

As for the national team: "it is the least someone can do", is highly political and emotive. If you mock others for supporting Italy (or whoever) then you are making a
Judgement on a political level on them.

It's not really a judgement, it's fact. They have no right to support a nation that isn't their own. If nobody supported their own nation then international football might as well cease to exist because those nations are what make up the international game.

I know it's difficult for some to understand and possibly to swallow, but there is no sense in it.

I am in no position to label fans. I simply cannot understand how one can support a football national team other than his/her own.
Why can you understand not supporting your local team, but not your national team.
Is affliation to a side a national or local issue: perhaps it is both?

You do mock them though: or at least promise to.

The difference is in most countries you don't need papers to pass from town to town. And in general, towns in the same region generally have the same sort of culture, so it makes no difference. And finally, once again, I could play for Juventus without Italian citizenship but I couldn't be selected by the Azzurri. That's all that matters and there's no sense in disputing it.

I do think you have an obligation to support your own Nation, I prefer countless other National sides to my own such as Brazil,Spain,Argentina and France due to the way they play the game but I will only support England.

You make little sense.

Firstly, you make, yet again, a highly emotive and political judgement by stating that
"they have no right to support a nation..." Why?

Secondly, people support their national team as a matter of course, except the few exceptions and they have that right to support another team, as much as those who have the right to support or not to support their team, for instance, the vast majority of Americans who have no idea what the World Cup means, and that their World Series is a joke.
