Well liking certain players will make you support their team normally
I like Drogba but I don't support Chelsea not Ivory Coast.

I like Kuyt but I don't support Liverpool nor Holland.

I like Lahm but I don't support Bayern nor Germany.

So your support is based on the players, not the nation and the team itself?

That's just as bad.

Any way you cut it, it doesn't make sense to support Brazil unless you're Brazilian as that's what international football is based on.

It's that simple.
So quality and success get results? Its not just marketing but the chance of being associated with winning that attacts the floating fan.

Are not national teams the same: those who are successful attract greater support.

Not many Fans outside of Iceland who support Iceland.

Successful national teams cannot attract better players so that they remain successful. Successful teams can purchase players so that they keep being successful and promoting their image.

It's not that hard to spot the difference, that is if you really want to see the difference.

As for your Iceland example. Not so many fans outside Salernitana support Salernitana.

On what basis do you support Juventus?
I presume that you believe that supporting your National Team is a patriotic duty: or am I mistaken!

It may be the case with you guys, but different people have their choices and likings.

I am not being obtuse, but I don't see your point.

Juventus was the first European football side I heard of back in the day. Remembered the name because it was unusual. Saw my first match on tv and was hooked. When I started to get involved with the game at an early age the MLS wasn't around yet.

I don't think there's a reason not to support your own national team. It's least someone can do. It's not a matter of politics, not a matter of war. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever to not cheer for your own country.
