what makes you think that the mods will be convinced and will acquiesce to your pro-Seven argument? Alen's giving it a go again since you're back, he has tried before you know.
I wasn't talking about the mods. I was talking about the ones who are not convinced about Seven's ban yet. I meant If you're already convinced, you can simply avoid this thread. Time has come for you Ahmed to understand that avoiding many things will be much healthier for you rather than avoiding alcohol.
Burke isn't above banning. His history has proven that. The strange irony here is perhaps that Burke has become a better member when he became a moderator. (I was really dicey on the idea, Bozi heavily supported it, and to be honest, I think Burke has been a lot more fair and unbiased than I ever would have given him credit for.)
Assigning Burke as a mod was really strange. It was like a gamble. And yea, he's done the moderating job very well even though I don't agree that his attitude has changed since then. You know yourself that at the time Burke was assigned as the mod, he'd already had lots of heated moments with the members and moderators. Many were not familiar with his jokes and most of the members didn't really like him.
Question is that why you never wanted to use that tactic to make Andries a better member? Because one was Burke and the other was Andries?
Burke does what he does for outrageousness and laughs, for the most part. Not everyone sees the humor, of course. But while you cannot avoid offending everyone, life is absurd enough and I would concur there are times where humor is appropriate. Even at my own expense.
This is
your perception Greg. This is probably my perception too. I don't feel offended by what he says but it's not because I think he's doing that all only for laughs. It's that I have accepted him the way he is. Now, look, this is a Juventus forum. There's a clear rule which forbids the members to insult Juve players and staff (you yourself give people infractions for that, don't you?). Burke has done it lots of time and we have learned to let it go. If he puts a Del Piero avatar with a bomb on his head he will not get banned. Now before everyone jumps on me for comparing Del Piero to prophet Mohammad, I must say that the difference is that we have learned not to get offended by someone who doesn't respect a Juve player like we do so there must be a way for some to learn that not everyone respects prophet Mohammad like they do. And the irony part is that we don't have any rule here prohibiting us from making fun of prophet Mohammad.
I find this "but while you cannot avoid offending everyone" thing very ridiculous coming from you to be honest because this is exactly what you didn't accept about Andries.
But others do what they do to provoke insult and belittle the other person's belief systems and culture almost out of an air of superiority and self-smugness. That's less about trying to earn laughs as much as inflict pain.
It doesn't matter
why you do something as long as you do it. If I spit at someone, claiming that I did it only for fun and laugh doesn't make it any better than the time I do it because of let's say hatred. And only because you find what Burke says/does laughable it doesn't mean that those who are insulted by him have the same opinion about it too.
