Primavera renamed after Facchetti Wednesday 8 November, 2006

The Italian Primavera youth team championship will be named after deceased Inter President Giacinto Facchetti.

“We have decided to change the name of the competition to honour the memory of Facchetti’s great sporting figure,” said Lega Calcio chief Antonio Matarrese.

“I personally made this proposal and all the members accepted without any complaints. [Inter owner and new President] Massimo Moratti was visibly moved by this fact,” added the official.

The championship will now therefore be known officially as the Primavera TIM Giacinto Facchetti.

Facchetti, who died in September, was firmly convinced of the ethical importance of youth teams, which he did not consider only from a technical and competitive point of view.

This was confirmed during Inter’s board of directors meeting on Monday, when newly-elected President Moratti announced that the Interello youth training facility would be renamed after Facchetti.

sorry but y didnt any1 think of renaming this the omar sivori cup, or the john charles cup? oh but oh no, fachetti is special enuff to have this honour, bloody shame that in an ideal world ppl wud rather have the chimenti cup, well no offence but im sickened and outraged by this decision, i cudnt give a rats ass how much of a legend he was to binter, but he means f*ck all to me, bollocks to u binter, i hope our primavera players withdraw and find a championship that is non binter influenced.
