Lyon close in on Boumsong
Monday 21 January, 2008

Out-of-favour Juventus defender Jean-Alain Boumsong could sign for French champions Lyon before the end of the week.

The French stopper was a regular starter during the Old Lady’s promotion from Serie B, but he is yet to make a contribution this term.

While injury problems have been partly responsible for the former Newcastle man’s peripheral role, boss Claudio Ranieri doesn’t appear to think he is up to the pace of the top flight.

While Lazio and Besiktas have been linked with a swoop for Boumsong, it now appears that Lyon are in pole position for his signature.

“We should complete a deal for Boumsong at the start of the week,” Les Gones President Jean-Michael Aulas declared.

“In the next few hours we will meet with Juventus officials to come to an agreement.”

The deal is expected to take the form of a loan until June with a fee set to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.

Boumsong is not a good player but I think we should not let him go before we got a new defender. we already sent criscito on loan and regretted it just a few days later when chiellini was injured.

Don't loan him out for fuck's sake, if you gonna sell him whatever, but don't loan him when we're desperate for men in defense... even tho that man is a total retard.

BOUMSONG HITS RIGHT NOTE FOR LYON

Lyon are hoping to sign Juventus defender Jean-Alain Boumsong on loan for the rest of the season.

The Ligue 1 leaders are short of defensive cover after Brazilian Cleber Anderson was ruled out for six months with a serious knee injury.

Les Gones certainly looked fragile on Sunday night as they crashed to a 3-0 defeat at relegation strugglers Lens.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is now hoping to lure the France international back to his homeland during the January transfer window.

He told the club's television channel: "It is necessary for us to replace Cleber Anderson.

"We are in advanced talks with a French defender who plays for Juventus but as things are not yet signed we cannot confirm it.

"We hope that the business is concluded quickly, ideally at the start of this week."
