Our youngsters are pretty good, but we'll see how they match up against the Russians.

The US basically uses these games as a development chance for young players which is usually why we don't do so well.
Yeah seems like it because ever since I can remember the US never takes this tournament seriously. I remember when they used to send college students...at least now there are NHL players in the mix. One thing I don't understand though, for such a powerhouse they don't perform that well in the Olympics either or that well consistently should I say.

None of the best players play international hockey so they aren't used to it at the Olympics. If our best players would play more tourneys like this we'd do so much better at the Olympics. Even though these days we aren't much when compared to the Canadians, Russians, Finns and Swedes. Those are the true power houses.

Someone should write them a nasty letter.

ps: I feel bad for the Finns. They're like Sisyphus when it comes to international hockey.

Forza Wings - Canucks Conference Final. I don't watch much NHL live given that games mostly start 03:00 in the night here but I'll make sure not to miss that.

Keep an eye out for Linus Omark and Johan Harju. NHL lost out on both players because of crappy contract offers and now they're joining Dynamo Moscow in the KHL.
Did they get 25% off from their original contract yet? :p

If they're the new Fabian Brunstromm then they can stay there. :D

Omark I would say is a Forsberg/Bäckström-ish player and I do see him making it. Brunnström I never understood the hype in North America, he wasn't all that in Sweden.

9 points in 5 games in the World Cup so far for Omark.

Carolina is outworking my team, big time. Cam Ward has been outstanding, the Hurricanes have a great forecheck, they're just winning all the battles in the corner right now.

That said, Boston just got the massive benefit of a disallowed Carolina goal (after a 6 minute video review - looked like it was in, but you could never really see white ice between the puck and the goal line from the overhead cam), so this game is still alive for the 3rd. Boston better get its act together quickly...

The Bruins look incredibly weak and if they don't sort things out in the next couple games they're finished.

But I wasn't expecting them to make waves in these Playoffs this season. The Boston Bruins just don't have what it takes to go all the way at the moment, which is why I held that they aren't a scary team to play, all things considered.

That's all fine and good to say. If you've been watching these games, then you know how outstanding Ward has been, and how well Carolina has capitalized on their opportunities.

Previously it was the shorthanded goal (game two). In game 3 it was taking advantage after Boston missed 4-5 solid overtime chances (including a breakaway), with a rebound (Carolina's other goals in that game happened when a Boston defender fell in the neutral zone, and when another Bruin defender whiffed on a clearance, allowing Stall to capitalize). Tonight it was goal 2 on the powerplay (which was a fucking BRUTAL call on Chara, but I digress)... rebounds, rebounds, rebounds. This team scores ugly, and wins. My team needs more speed on defense (actually BOTH of them do...HA)... Ward, and Hnidy are killing us. Montador hasn't been good. Man, do we miss Ference.

They have outworked my team pure and simple. Sticks in passing lanes, blocking shots, and getting a TON of garbage goals - loads of shots at the net, with great traffic in front. Samsonov is back for revenge, and he's killing us (he did score a beauty tonight, that's for sure - the fourth by Stall was pretty nice as well).

That's playoff hockey, and my team would do well to take note. As I said before, this team is going to be quality for awhile.

Despite the fact that we're down, I've seen my team lose a 3-1 lead, so I'm not ready to concede this series yet. Anything can happen in the playoffs.

I know, brother. I'm just incredibly disappointed right now, as I'm sure you can imagine. Hittin' the scotch up pretty hard...

You're right... a team has always gotta walk the walk - especially given where my boys are coming from these past few years. They have overachieved big time this year, I'd be the first to admit that. Totally wouldn't have expected the 8th to 1st jump - not to mention the huge increase in production from some of the youngsters (Krejci, Kessel, Wheeler, Lucic, Wideman, etc.)...

Oh well... I'll just keep the faith...

Your boys are doing their jobs tonight, getting all the small things done and finding opportunities. 2-0 right now at the end of the first period.
