Roma embargo blocks Nonda? Saturday 2 July, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The transfer embargo on Roma could include the already completed moves for Rodrigo Taddei, Sami Kuffour and Shabani Nonda, while Antonio Cassano is also affected.

The Giallorossi have been banned from signing any players from overseas or within Italy for the next year as a result of their conduct in the capture of Philippe Mexes from Auxerre last season.

The suspension was imposed yesterday, but could yet affect moves that have already been completed, as the new season did not begin until July 1. With this in mind, it is possible that Taddei, Kuffour and Nonda’s contracts were set to begin at the start of this month and therefore fall into the embargo time slot.

Roma are attempting to buy themselves some time to register these players by lodging an appeal to the TAS – Tribunal for Arbitration in Sport – to postpone the ban.

This suspension also has a knock-on effect for players that the club wishes to sell, such as Antonio Cassano and Amantino Mancini.

Juventus were lining up a move for the Italian international and his Brazilian teammate by offering money plus Fabrizio Miccoli and Enzo Maresca, but FIFA’s ruling means that any sales must be in exchange for cash only

Real Madrid have been alerted to the situation and, seeing their difficulties in capturing Robinho, could turn their attention back towards Cassano with a £17m price-tag.

so that means that cassano could be gone for free next season? no team will buy him now for big bucks to get him next season if they can get him free this time next summer.

If not getting getting cassano means getting gilardino instead, i really dont mind as such. Mancini would have been nice to have as would the possible chivu, but i guess we need something else now.

It means all Roma Sales will be made by cash only since that Roma are unable to acquire any new players.

Thats the whole deal with Robinho IMO, we want to tell Real Madrid not mess up our transfer target. which we will get on free next season.

I think the key question here is whether Roma is allowed to take players on loan. If that is the case, then Juve could always loan Miccoli and Maresca to Roma with an option to purchase them once their embargo ends.

So, does anyone know whether they are allowed to take players on loan?

No, they aren't even allowed to take players on loan. Pretty bad for Juve. :(

Two scenarios:

- We buy him outright from the money we make from sales. Around £15m, given we don't sell Trezeguet.

- We wait. With the lure of Capello, he'll sign with us next summer.

I still believe we'll get him..and I'm glad of it.
All you doubters are hereby forbidden to praise/cheer him in the match threads, when he starts banging them in and linking up seamlessly with Ibra. You've made your beds, lie in them. :p

No need to hurry, Roma is badly cornered now,
we can take advantage of the situation,
i still wonder we we "gave" them Nonda,Taddei,Kuffour,
for nothing?Or we didnt gave them
and if we did we knew all this would happen?

Cassano, Gila, Zlatan, Mutu, Dp.....thats a little unbelievable to be frank. And besides, if Trez goes, i have a dirty feeling Dp will too. Given the fact that Trez's replacement will in all likelihood be a big move, which would definitely mean he would be handpicked by Capello. That would mean a new big signing that would play with Zlatan and Mutu who are already in the ranks to play support, itll leave Dp with precious little to do in the forthcoming season.

if we had that lineup...on paper it would be the best in history..but in truth it would suck eggs.

The strikers would be rotated..thus destroying anny chance of rythm...especially as ego's will be dented constantly.

The only way that would work is if we played 3 up front and Mutu in midfield.

If Capello had such players he would obviously go for 4-3-3. :) As I think it was Andy once pointed out (though I'm sure he meant with Trezeguet not Gilardino):

Baggio(Cassano) - Weah(Gilardino) - Savicevic (Ibrahimovic)
= Milan under Capello. Could he be trying to do the same thing with Juventus?

nice trio there at Milan, i miss watching Baggio (the player not the poster :D) play.

but seriously, Chelsea's only chance of bringing in a big shot striker is Trezeguet. So I have faith that this bid is real. If Trez does leave, I dont see DP leaving all that surprising, or perhaps it is the surprise transfer?
Gila - Ibra - Mutu should be good enough for our strating rotation with Zalayeta and Miccoli (if not sold) mostly on the bench.
I'd really like Miccoli to stay because he gives us the option of pace, agility and mobility. But I doubt his attitude will do Juve anygood but ruin the atmosphere.
