Cassano ‘too expensive’ for Juve Wednesday 22 June, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Italian champions Juventus claim they don’t have the funds necessary to buy Antonio Cassano from Roma.

Transfer guru Luciano Moggi has finally confirmed that the Giallorossi ace is a target, but the capital club’s asking price is just too expensive.

"We don’t have the economical possibility to buy Cassano," Moggi told Tele Lombardia on Wednesday.

"The newspaper stories that we are interested in him are true but there is a small problem – money."

Cassano, whose contract expires in 2006, will leave the Stadio Olimpico this summer and Roma reportedly want around £15m.

"We need to get used to buying players on free transfers, as we have up to now," continued Moggi.

"A club can admire a player at another club without having the necessary means of buying him."

It now remains to be seen whether Moggi is being realistic, or simply ‘bluffing’ as he has done on so many occasions in the past. However, if Juve do pull out of the Cassano chase, then Inter and Real Madrid could join the queue for the Italian.

Juventus have signed two players so far this summer in the form of Robert Kovac from Bayern Munich and Lazio’s Giuliano Giannichedda.

Both arrived on free transfers, as did Adrian Mutu who was brought in during the January transfer window.

Meanwhile, Moggi will meet with Fiorentina on Friday in an effort to resolve the futures of Fabrizio Miccoli, Enzo Maresca and Giorgio Chiellini. All three are currently co-owned by both clubs

All this comments about "No money for Cassano"are the typical Moggiean smokescreen, but right now, it seems very difficult to anticipate what are the real intentions of Moggi and Giraudo:could be a pressure to Sensi to lower the price, or maybe they want to pull out the deal because the discover a more interesting adquisition, or everything has been a set up to take out Gila from Milan hands, or etc, etc, etc.

This is one thing i like from Moggi: never lose the capacity to surprise us....

Zeman Let Down By Roma
6/22/2005 2:03:00 PM
The former Lecce coach admitted that he had already discussed the sales of Cassano and Mancini.
Zdenek Zeman revealed that he was close to sitting on the Roma bench. Meetings took place with the Giallorossi and everything seemed to point towards a return to Rome.

“For me with Roma it was a serious thing. I spoke about programmes, purchases and sales. It seems like I have vanished for a month or that I invented everything. I can say that I was contacted by Roma and I spoke with Rossella Sensi and Daniele Pradè. We spoke about Roma’s future.

“Then they asked for time, because they told me, that before they had to resolve some situations. Technical situations? They didn’t seem technical, but situations which evidently they were unable to resolve.”

Zeman confirmed that Cassano and Mancini are on their way out.

“Roma had foreseen some sales. Cassano and Mancini? Yes. Now I must think about my future since I have not spoken to other teams which were after me so as to respect the agreement with Roma.”

Zeman is expected to join either Bologna or Brescia in the coming weeks.

Well seems that Moggi could get Cassano cheaper... Cassano its not going to renew his contract with Roma, Gazzetta.it has report that his agent has said that theres no agreement with Roma.

This could force Roma to lower his price on Cassano...

Moggi you devil!!! :D

Let's face it: Cassano ain't coming to Juve. He's bound to choose between Real & Inter. Mancini or Chivu are on their way to Turin.
Why ? Capello is the key here, I would agree with you if Capello wasn't our coach, but he is and we are going to sign him, simple as.

Roma split beckons for Cassano Thursday 23 June, 2005

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Antonio Cassano has moved closer to a Roma exit after his agent held talks with the club on Thursday.

Giuseppe Bozzo spent three hours with officials at Villa Pacelli but the outfit tellingly didn’t offer him a new contract.

Cassano’s current deal expires in 2006 which now suggests that the player will definitely be sold this summer, rather than possibly leave on a free next year.

"Nothing has been decided and we didn’t offer him an extension," Roma sporting director Daniele Pradè said.

"It was a serene meeting and was simply just important to meet again. Another meeting will take place soon."

Bozzo refused to comment on his way out of the Giallorossi’s offices amid rumours that his client will be signed by Juventus.

However, the Bianconeri yesterday suggested they couldn’t afford the former Bari player who is believed to have an asking price of around £20m.

Cassano would be willing to stay at the Stadio Olimpico but his wage demands have scared off the club.

He reportedly wants a deal similar to the one that Francesco Totti has just signed, which will net the captain £7.5m a season before tax.

Real Madrid may also look to sign Cassano if they sell Michael Owen, while Inter have been linked too.

I'm not going to spend my first post on some lame introduction.
That said, I'm not too sure about Cassano making Juventus a better team.

He's a typical problem child, and Juve don't like problem childs. Someone like Gilardino on the other hand would be a typical Juve player. As Cassano's deal seems imminent, we probably won't get Gilardino, but I'm not too excited about Cassano.

If only he weren't such a fat bastard.

Nah, he needs some weight on, otherwise defender will push him off the ball too easily. Like Rooney's sharpe, he is small but strong body strength.
