Seven, you learn by playing yes, but the slight advantage is on Civilians, not only numbers game (civilians are 4 times more, but also as I said, its not easy being convincing liar as you would normally think.
And Cronios, we will start this next week, are you able to take part then?
And your questions. If the detective dies, then the civilians must work together and find the rest of the gangsters without the help of investigation from the detective (once I played one game which the detective was whacked on day 1, chaaaaaaos
but eventually we won), but with intuition and numbers game lynching whoever you find suspicious until you win. Its hard, but doable.
And if a Gangster is find out to be a gangster from the detectives investigation, and the detective somehow gets it out that its a gangster who has been investigated without giving away he is the detective (tough thing), then that gangster will get lynched by the votes for the civilians who trust the detectives investigation. Then that Gangster is dead, and not part of the game anymore.
Will post below little commentary that is answers to some these things, of how things may work out, in case you think things are easy:
"Now basically the dynamics of it, you would get this quickly if you play it, but will break it down anyway : Gangsters are bit disadvantaged in a way, as in they are fewer and have to keep lying (must be very persuasive) and putting up an appearance basically to survive and win, and trust me, its not easy, you would think it is, but it isnt when everything you say is scrutinized. But they have the advantage of knowing a little more then the civilians, who can easily be bit like paranoid sheep and know nothing about who anyone is at the start, and they tend to become destructive and accuse and lynch eachother for every little thing said.
Thats the task of the Gangsters, to manipulate and faciliate the civilians to tear eachother apart, while maintaining your innocence and seeming unsuspicious at the same time (to push them enough in the wrong direction without giving yourself away, while whacking one of them each nigh, thinning the numbers, and hoping you get the one that can screw you up, the Detective). Thats the compelling and fun part of it mostly, have played both sides, and its as fun for both, ut there something just more fun about manipulating others when you are the "bad guy"
But as I said, civilians have the advantage in numbers, but nevertheless must play it smart, its very easy to succumb to accusing and lynching eachother while the crooks stay clean. Thats why its important to get organised eventually and get to feel eachother out in terms of who you can trust. Everyone is at his own and can only trust himself, but vital if you work with eachother, you are essentially guided by someone who is somewhat cunning atleast.
Because you catch the Gangsters not only by the detective investigating 1, and outing him (though not by saying you are the detective, then you will be whacked, but by somehow getting it through someone you can trust), but its essential to analyze the behavour of players, who is suspicious, who has what agenda, the pattern of their voting and if its too convenient or logical. More or less trying to see through the web of intrigue and manipulation. Basically using your head and think, more or less the fun part of it. But this gets more normal and easy when you play again, as rookies, mistakes and such are bound to happen
