Hate to tell everyone this, but this is probably going to be the worst season Juventus has experienced in generations. I don't see a way out of it and I'm really pessimistic.
I predict Juve will have its worst "natural" finish since the 1961-62 season. I say "natural" because I am excluding all the bizarre seasons that docked us due to league punishments and Inter lawyers. This coming season, we won't need any help.
We got our fourth-choice coach for the season. Our transfer campaign is focused on trying to get rid of a lot of underperforming players without giving them away for free. Otherwise we are getting bent over for exiting young talent with little great talent coming in.
Hence why I am posting this in this thread. This is going to be a real test of footie fan character, sad to say. I will still be here throughout with much to lament and complain about. But a disaster is coming.
Allow me to weigh your pessimism with some slight optimism.
Compared to last year I think Inter Milan has gotten weaker, Napoli is Napoli but they have CL this year and that will complicate some of their Serie A performance I would have to imagine.
Yes, we have a not-ideal coach who I am not a big fan of but I am ready to be surprised.
- Tudor's system hopefully won't be so haphazardly forced on this roster like Motta tried. I think we have the players to better play a 3-4-2-1 and I think he'll be more flexible if things are working.
- Bremer is back and his leadership at the back and amongst the players will be massive and was a great miss last year.
- Another year of growth and development from our younger players
- We have the attacking pieces and flare to generate opportunities and that blends with the next point
- David should (hopefully) give us a more clinical striker from Day 1, something that even early in last year's campaign we were sorely missing.
- Thuram seems to be a lock to be a starting midfielder and not banished to the bench as much like he was under Motta early on
- Locatelli seems to be impressing in Tudor's system and it would be nice to rely more on him to be an important midfielder who can be consistently good
- Joao Mario is better at RB than what we started last year with and is an ACTUAL RB who (arguments aside on his talent level) I have hopes will be better than the youth or converted CBs or converted wingers or converted CMs we used basically all of last season there.
- Savona converted to a CB I think will really allow him to shine and I hope he takes that next step to be a very good, young CB with Juve DNA (think Cheillini getting converted from LB to CB and the steps he took to thrive with that change)
- If Miretti stays, I think he's an important rotational player and really shows us his growth and development since returning. I still believe in him and want his to be a successful regular player for us.
- If we can't sell him, let's be honest. Douglas Luiz can't be any worse, right? This goes with the next point
- Koopmeiners can't be any worse. He was basically useless last year. He can only get better and if he plays ANY WAY close to his Atalanta level, its a massive boost
- Nico (if he stays) can't play any worse
- Vlahovic (if he stays) can't play any worse
- I have cautious hopes of a introduction and thriving of Adzic into the attacking positions, rotated with Koopmeiners and Yildiz and Conceicao behind David/Vlahovic. Everything I'm hearing about his dedication to training, his physical improvements and development, and his technical skills makes me hesitantly excited that he might be a good player for us and 1-2 breakdown performances either when rotated in or coming on as a sub and I think he can really push to be a regular player for us.
I think we forget that with all the injuries and all the Motta chaos and uncertainty nad all the underperforming players, we still finished top 4 (by 1 point) and only 3-4 bad matches away from competing with Napoli.
Things were so bad and so dark last year, finishing top 4 was kind of a miracle and how statistically possible is it that ALL the players that underperformed and had bad years do it again? I think we have to believe its not possible ALL of them are that bad, that useless again. We know they have the talent.
