CL is a competition where eventhough you invested 1 billion eur in the team, you can fail to win it year after year. No team starts the season focusing only on CL because no-one is crazy enough to do so when you know that one bad day can mean the end of your years long work.

And you don't really think that Xabi Alonso or Aquilani would have won us the CL ?
You can't win something as big as CL over night. You need a long term plan and a lot of luck to win the damn thing.

Now, you can say that we're not doing the right things so in some 3,4,5 years we could win the CL and i'd agree with you on that. But you guys are only lying to yourselves if you think that a creative midfielder (don't we have two in Tiago and Almiron and it didn't work ?) would have done miracles for us this season.

In this particular season we should have focused on the defense and on the squad depth.
We added the depth, we bought a guy who defends the midfield perfectly but we didn't fix the weak spots in our defense.
Creative midfielder was far from being our biggest need this season. It would've been great to have Xabi Alonso (together with Zanetti, Sissoko and Poulsen, not instead one of them) but i really doubt we're gonna be sorry for buying Poulsen instead of Xabi.

But i'm pretty sure we'll be sorry for not buying more quality in defense and we'd have been even more sorry if we bought Xabi Alonso and no quality in defense. This way, with Poulsen, at least we gave a protection to our shaky defense.

I know many of you disagree with this, and it's ok, but look back at our last season and you'll see that our weaknesses were at the back, not in creating and scoring.
valid points but we can have 2 systems and play one way in Serie A and another in the CL. I always said that to win a championship you need defense first but to win a tournament like the CL you need players who will invent things even if your team plays like sh*t.

Yes, i agree, of course.
The problem is that Juve fans expect Juve to have these 2 systems this season but it was impossible. You need more than 1 season after the serie B promotion to build such a team that can play equally good in serie A and CL.

The problem is that the board didn't do much to make us confident that they're building a team that in 3 or 4 years can play successfully everywhere.
Like Man Utd were doing. It took years for Ferguson to create the team that won everything this season. There were early CL eliminations and failures in EPL because the team couldn't gel so fast and the younger guys needed time to mature, but at the end they did it and it was obvious that sooner or later they'll do it because they did make the right moves.
With us it's different. We're making some right moves but only short-term moves that can help us do fine for a year or two. I can't see a long-term plan unfortunately.

By many departments you mean... ?
For me it's only Legro and Molinaro, the others are more than good.
We did have a strong first team that could beat anyone and did beat the strongest teams. But we didn't have a strong bench.
Now we have the bench and that problem's solved. But Legro and Molinaro must be replaced.
Legro, Molinaro, and last but not least Nedved who really is an accident waiting to happen

more than one season or just a decent management? Yes we can make some mistakes in transfers but not like Secco and cie did the past 2 years.

We could be so much better this season it's not even funny. Last year we should of took care of the D. Legro was great but who long will that last? We didn't have Europe to think about so that was the time to build a quad consisted of solid defending. This year was the opportunity to polish our squad a bit and add some creativity. I just hope Giovinco plays like he's supposed to.

I think we did take care of the defense last year. We bought Andrade and the most promising young defender in Italy, Criscito. We had Zebina and Grygera on the right and Chiellini on the left.
It did look ok. I remember people were really pleased with our defense before the season started.

It turned out that all of us were wrong. Grygera-Criscito-Andrade-Chiellini had to be transformed to Zebina-Legro-Chiellini-Molinaro.

Mark, do you believe that there will be no more signings?
yes

take care meaning we bought players in but I didn't trust Andrade with his bad injury. I thought Criscito would have been good though.

Instead of Almiron and Tiago we could have done much better. A Poulsen for example then would have been more appropriate instead of one of the 2.
We finally realized that in January when we bought Sissoko.

I totally agree, but I have a big question, is our objective winning the CL? For me if we get past the group stage it's a great achievement. Bearing in mind of course that we are a team that were in Serie B just two season ago.

According to Cobolli-Gigli yes.

Please show me where he said that. And mind you, who really takes him seriously?
I will not post goal.com articles but he said he prefers the Cl over the scudetto. Now like you said, who takes him seriously?

On the other hand, if our Prez was named Berlusconi and he said the CL was his dream then we'd have no questions on what our objective would be.

I agree. Ranieri dont build his teams on a good defence. He did this with Chelsea. The team needed a very good central defender and a left back. I would prefer spending the 23m Euro we spent on Amauri we spent them on 2 very good defenders. I think that Ranieri and our management want to build a modest team. Its 2 consecutive years that we are buying modest players, players that no one wants and that noone has haerd about them. With cant compete with teams like Milan (with Ronaldinho etc), Inter, Fiorentina (who bought players better than us) and Roma. And in CL we wouldnt even go through the preliminary. The same defensive mistakes were shown yesterday. Who is this Mellberg? He is another Molinaro. I am ashamed of this team!!!! Until Ranieri, Secco and bLanc are there, we will never win anything, instead we will be relegated to serie B, this time on our merits.

It was about time, this year I missed so much Arezzo, Crotone and Albinolefe.
So I'll have to be patient for just one more season:weee:
Very funny!!!!!!!

You think with Molinaro, Legro, Gyrgera, Mellberg and Knezevic we have a solid defence? You are very mistaken!!!! These are all flops!! and you should admit it. Dont fool yourself. We have a defence that will concede a lot of goals as we did last year. Where did we finish last year although we had our 2 attackers top scores? We finished 3rd with 12 points behind Inter. So its the defence that make you win games and not a good attack. Amauri was a waste of money. With that money plus the money we spent on Mellberg, Knesevic and Poulsen we could have bought Ronaldinho and 2 quality defenders.
