Fiat Reports 27 Percent Profit Increase

Fiat Group SpA reported Thursday that its fourth-quarter net income climbed 27 percent on sales of new models like the iconic Fiat 500.
The company that makes autos under the Fiat, Maserati and Ferrari brands, as well as trucks and farming equipment, posted the highest trading profit in its history in 2007.
Net income at Italy's largest industrial group was 597 billion euros ($870.07 billion), up from 470 billion euros a year ago.
Fiat reported revenues of 15.8 billion euros ($23.03 billion), a 14 percent improvement over 2006 fourth quarter revenues of 13.9 euros. Officials said increased activity across all its businesses drove sales.
Fiat also said that it has eliminated its net debt in 2007 ahead of schedule and confirmed its 2008 targets.
