i was astonished that he stood and watched as the defender ran in to head clear, he was favourite to win the header, just needed to tap it in with his head but stood motionless as his hooked sclaff was cleared.

but that does not make him a bad player by any stretch of the imagination, though that was so bad it was almost comical

Dont know if he has been mentioned yet but, ive been very impressed by Russia's Yuri Zhirkov at these Euro's. He plays at LB/LW and looks very dangerous when he goes forward. Also has a wicked left foot. I think soon enough a big club will snap him up, he is currently playing for CSKA and is 24 years old.

Has anybody else noticed him?

Does anyone here take note of whether full backs can defend?

Or are you only interested in whether he can put a decent cross in and hit a nice shot.

i am a fullback myself and yes im always looking at how good they can defend. Just because i didnt mention it doesnt mean i havent taken note of it. He is pretty much a good all round LB, i mentioned his shooting ability because its something that stands out with Zhrikov. He is no Zambrotta (in his peak) but he certainly has the potential to be great.

I was just wondering.

Folk only ever seem to comment when a full back is good going forward, where defensive ability is far more important.

I'm not convinced about Zhirkov's defending. He relies too much on his pace, rather than good positioning.
