Yep, TV money is what makes CL so profitable though, and that's peanuts in EL.

While the EL financial prize money is no where near the prize money earned from a quarterfinals trip in CL, what it comes down to is our budget. We created a budget with a "goal" of reaching a specific place in the CL, be it quarterfinals or semifinals or what have you.

Getting knocked out early costs us the financial difference in money of quarterfinals (if that is indeed our goal in the budget) - group stages = loss of prize money. However, that prize money can be made up from EL performance money. However, to push for us to do good in EL by saying the prize money is about equal is just insane. We will lose money on this, no doubt, but only the difference from where we thought we'd get to where we ended up getting (group stage).

All in all, we lose about 20 mil in CL money, and 2 sold out stadiums

IF we win the final, we get some of that 20 mil back, but i have no idea how much, and we'd get 4 sold out stadiums + half of the final

That's excluding gate receipts I think. 4 home games vs 2 home games, although I imagine CL matches having higher ticket prices and attendance. Also winning means Super Cup revenue.

Well, of course the difference in prize money is negligible. But when people are talking about a loss of money for Juventus, I'm sure the minimal prize money wasn't what they were talking about.

Who cares about the prize money?

How about the 30m+ we're set to lose in TV money.

CL money depends on where milan and napoli end up (hopefully, EL)

Last year we had 63 mil. This year, probably ~15-20 mil less

Europaleague : Not excellent

look at this http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Download/uefaorg/Finance/01/84/05/88/1840588_DOWNLOAD.pdf

basically, winning the thing could net us 5-8 million, considering milana nd napoli will go straight out, and not sure about fiorentina

30+ mil ? For two rounds ? No man

We had 63 mil last year, and its gonna be 40ish this year

COnsidering the pdf i linked above from a few years back, EL could see us net 4-8 mil in tv pool share

So IF we wil the EL, we'd be talking about a loss of 10-20 million in European competition related revenue

But as Delpiero84 pointed out, there is the higher wages and amortisation

We'll only lose a lot in market pool TV money if Milan goes far. Otherwise its going to be split, something like that, no?
Yeah, its all hard to find precise numbers on that.

Its in juve's best interest if milan and napoli get eliminated tonight

Exactly. So, while we spin the fact that the prize money is near equal, we're talking possible losses of 15-20m of CL TV money. Though, I think a more accurate figure would be 30-40m lost.

Just use somebody who took third in a group stage last year as a comparison for financial income from EL television money to CL and you'll see what I mean. Chelsea earned near 10m in EL television money and they won the thing. That's the difference I'm talking about.

wow the increase compared to the 10/11 figures i had is quite big then.

In any case, we'll lose 20 mil in television money, but recuperating 10 trough EL is kinda big deal

What is clear is we need to do well in EL for our own co-efficient.Maybe we can land Pot 2 if we get close to winning it.
:agree:

Need to have a good EL season.

The final is in Juventus Stadium right? Maybe this is a good opportunity to get some experience in playing properly in Europe with a view to next season.

I wonder what the board has in mind for our mercato this summer.

I'd be inclined to say, dont spend, sell some squadplayers, and get look if some of the promising youngsters we loaned/co-owned could make the step to our bench
I'd be happy if we kept all of our starting XI, sell some squad players, bring in 1/2 freebies and maybe someone like Boakye.
