Tell me, how much of Pakistan's history do you know? Pre-Partition included.

how far pre-partition are we talking? and which partition are we talking? is bangladesh not pakistan? you re looking at athis from a pretty nationalistic point of view. My intent was not to offend pakistanis but rather, as melo said, theres really no contest here. Sure india has its share of problems, but its brain trust and relatively booming economy has propelled them some light years in development ahead of the islamic republic.

I never get why people who aren't from the Subcontinent feel so passionately about a united India. Also, I really wish people would read more about Gandhi and realize he wasn't the biggest saint in the world as he's made out to be. At times he was a hypocrite, unwilling to meet anyone half way, and a racist.
you forgot pedophile.

Gandhi was certainly a dick at times. (After all, it was his own kind that did him in.) But I generally get the sense when he wasn't trying to be. And if you look at India's Muslim Separation, the untold number of people displaced in the diaspora, the ethnic fighting and death that resulted from that, and the wasted hatred and resources put against what is -- without question -- a dodgy Pakistani state and a weak central Indian state that gets by where it can... how can you not see the results in its entirety as some major form of human failure?

There are no winners. From an outsider's perspective, it's like seeing two brothers who are covered in blood with missing teeth and arms who smile after bludgeoning each other and say, "This is so much better than trying to get along." How can you not shake your head at so much suffering and misery and failure that is essentially self-induced?
By that logic no nation should separate from the other, let's not pretend we live in an Utopian world, shall we?

Fact is Pakistan wasn't created for you or Deneb so with all due respect ya'll go can go fuck yourselves. As for the blame for the bloodshed that occurred as a result of partition lies on none other than Mountbatten, Nehru, and Gandhi. Many lives could have been saved if it wasn't for the arrogance and stubbornness of the three. They purposely hurried the proceedings of the partition in hopes that Pakistan would fail within months and that Jinnah would come begging to be taken back into union. It was also their fault for not addressing the needs and concerns of the Sikh community. In any case, it was my forefathers that died and I didn't ask any of you shed a tear for them so I really don't get the needless expression of sorrow.

Fact is that after centuries of being ruled by others, which included Muslims, the Hindu's were facing the chance of self-rule for the first time in a long long time. This is no small thing and this psyche was a huge factor on how everything played out and how some of the decisions were made around this time. The British Cabinet Mission, responsible for the transfer of power, drew up a proposal where provinces would be divided up into majority Hindu & majority Muslim. This way the Muslims of India would be assured that they would have an equal say in the new nation. Initially the Congress agreed to this but then went back on their word. Nehru & Gandhi had their own agenda and weren't willing to concede an inch of their 'vision'.

"Congress obduracy thus compelled the British Prime Minister, however reluctantly, to contemplate the possibility of partition."

So as you see, contrary to popular belief that Pakistan was created as a result of Muslim India insisting a nation of its own is a myth. The British and the Muslim League tried its best to get all parties at the table but Nehru & Gandhi were obtuse and power hungry that wanted an India as they saw it.

Do your homework before you weeping about an issue that was never yours and one that doesn't affect you. I understand the bourgeois need to be able to tell friends that you drank some 'lovely chai' along the banks of the Ravi river or the fascination with riding a camel along the shores of Karachi while taking in the breathtaking view of the city in a United India but partition was hardly going to be prevented to facilitate or please you lot.

Coming back to the claim that India is superior to Pakistan. It's just bad taste to come into a Desi thread and try to stir shit up. We get along in here and believe it or not most of us try to avoid this subject because we know it won't get us anywhere and will only lead to fights. I don't see you guys going into the Balkan thread and doing this so why do you do it here? It's pathetic really.

I don't wish ill on Indians and I'm happy for their success and I also know these things work in cycles. One day Pakistan will free itself of its evils and live up to its potential and the fulfill the image our founder and my forefathers had. Its evils which everyone knows to be Islamic Fundamentalism, which ironically came from 'Muslims' who were staunch resistors of the partition (read about Deobandi & Ahrari viewpoints on the partition) and only came to Pakistan years after its creation. Again...do your homework.

Hmm i dont understand how and why my name got dragged to this partition business, my question and request were simple, i made a claim you decided to counter but were afraid to provide the material for your counter in fear of offending some, the only one offended by facts here is you guessed it: you.
since you took the gloves off, whats really pathetic is that you would take this to heart so much, so i wont tell you to 'respectfully go fuck yourself', but hoefully one day you wont be as naive.

Sorry for dragging your name into the partition business but you did try to stir shit up even if that wasn't your intention.
