I never get why people who aren't from the Subcontinent feel so passionately about a united India. Also, I really wish people would read more about Gandhi and realize he wasn't the biggest saint in the world as he's made out to be. At times he was a hypocrite, unwilling to meet anyone half way, and a racist.

Gandhi was certainly a dick at times. (After all, it was his own kind that did him in.) But I generally get the sense when he wasn't trying to be. And if you look at India's Muslim Separation, the untold number of people displaced in the diaspora, the ethnic fighting and death that resulted from that, and the wasted hatred and resources put against what is -- without question -- a dodgy Pakistani state and a weak central Indian state that gets by where it can... how can you not see the results in its entirety as some major form of human failure?

There are no winners. From an outsider's perspective, it's like seeing two brothers who are covered in blood with missing teeth and arms who smile after bludgeoning each other and say, "This is so much better than trying to get along." How can you not shake your head at so much suffering and misery and failure that is essentially self-induced?
