I don't really understand the whole concept behind the movie. Why did everything freeze because of global warming? The scientific explanation was half-hearted to say the least.
Actually global warming could lead to a new ice-age via various scenarios. One of them being that the gulf stream that keeps the climate in Europe mild (and Europe's climate really is very mild when you consider New York is just as far north as Rome) would stop because of the sea cooling down when ice caps crash into the water when they break from the poles.
There's no way the ice and frost would find its way south that fast though. It would be a process of decades, not minutes like in the movie.
I know this because over here the threat is very real - the government launched a major operation to keep our nation dry several years ago but its not going well. We had to resort to plan B just recently.
On the bright side, if we loose that battle we won't be tortured by the memories of a disastrous Euro2004 anymore
