With the exception of martial artists maybe? Who? Sprinters? a shotputter? a longjumper? a synchronised swimmer?

Those guys in the elite formulae (F1, Le Mans, Indy, Rally ect) have to be just as fit, strong and athletic as those who compete in track and field, endurance-triathletes and so on; whilst having the stamina, strength, skill, mental capacity, courage, intelligence, craft and reaction times required to punt a 600BHP - 900BHP + Machine that often exceed 300kph and endure enormous G-forces only comparable to aggressive flight of aircraft. Not to mention that, without doubt, it is the sport with most risk for fatality or serious injury; as well, they are an organic component of what one could describe as a mechanical orchestra, which in the opinion of many, is a beautiful arrangement.

Comparably, more people incur serious injury or die in base jumping, bull riding, motocross, big wave surfing, skiing and more than in car racing.

Regardless of speed, machinery etc., racing disciplines (individually) have less risk than the aforementioned. Therefore, in my mind, formulae drivers are not the ballsiest as they are not taking as much risk. The athletes in the sports I mentioned have way less protection against death as well.
