Zol = brotha. It's a similar word used in expressions like "Whatz up my nigga?!"
They say, "Kef halak zol?!"
I noticed a particular similarity in Jeddah-Saudi dialect with Sudani Arabic, by the way. When using Emarati/East Coast Gulf dialect over there, they all laughed at me.
i.e. - I wanted to say, "...I will send you all an email with the details..."
Lebanese - "La7 eb3atelkom email ma3 kil el ma3loumet"
My wannabe Emarati/East coast dialect, "Zein, la7en tarresh lekom emaileh, chan tadroun kol el ma3loumat, 3edel?"
The Saudi's looked at me puzzled...needless to say, an embarrassing moment for me. lol
I have this annoying habit when speaking to non-Lebanese Arabs, to "convert" to their accent in order to understand...coz I used to have a serious problem understanding any Arabic that wasn't Lebanese, so the only way to learn, was to practice speaking it myself. (FYI- I never spoke Arabic until I was 12)

Tell your Sudani teacher - "Hala bil zola!" Zola (pronounced like the ex-Parma-Chelsea striker's surname), means "sista!" in Sudani

Nice thing that happened between you and Jeddawis...What did you speak before being 12?
